Merry Go Rounds and Lead

Submitted on December 22, 2009 – 8:06 pmOne Comment

Beautiful and bright colors

Lead compliance Merry-go-Round, A ride for all ages.It would seem a cruel truth that as Merry Go Rounds were turning and happy children were riding those brightly painted ponies and unicorns the rich colors of the ride itself were coats of lead paint. We already knew lead was poisonous, did we know that the ride itself was covered in the toxic heavy metal?

Its been a few days since I started this series to bring awareness to the upcoming lead compliance for residential homes in April.

Lets just sum the easy stuff up.

Lead is poison.

  • We will no longer disturb it without caution and precaution.
  • Safe containment will be a law.
  • Its for everyone’s benefit.

The Players are:

  • The EPA or the Federal Government.
  • Contractors.
  • Homeowners.

Problems are:

  • Confusing messages.
  • Not enough trained workers or inspectors.
  • Non compliant companies.

Solutions are:

  • Consumer awareness.
  • Contractor awareness.
  • Demonstrated enforcement.

After the holiday (Christmas), we will be back with a complete set of links with a short description of what the links will explain.

The links are for everyone, whether you agree or not, you should be in the know. If your a homeowner who doesn’t comply you might get in trouble with your building department, if your a contractor caught ignoring the law your in deep DooDoo. This rule needs a chance, and it need to become a common part of remodeling for homes that have lead present. That’s most of the homes built before 1978.

Also included will be some insurance facts for contractors.

Merry Christmas

For everyone!

So have a Merry Christmas, and we say that to Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists and Agnostics.
