What’s in a name?

Submitted on April 3, 2010 – 1:25 pmNo Comment

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any word would smell as sweet.”

by The Paul
Shakespeare

The Immortal Bard

I don’t know how, but while surfing the web I came across some interesting information. I noticed a remodeling company that had gone out of business. Nothing new about that; happens all the time. What got me to stop was the name of the company. Underbidders Construction Inc. What were they thinking? I thought I should look into this further. Here are the results. These are real company names.

Underbidders Construction, “Low, low, low prices or 10% off the lowest bid you get.”

Dark Skies Construction, “Always a cloud on your home”

Now and Then Construction, we show up, “Now and Then”

Mad Dog Builders, “Our mouths will foam while in your home”

Backdoor Handyman, “You won’t know we’ve left”

Love it or Leave it Construction, “Should I stay or should I go?”

I am the Guy Construction, “One call to do it all”

Sadly, these firms are no longer in business. Could it have been the names? Who knows, it is a complex world we live in. Could Shakespeare have helped with their tag lines or mission statements?

Underbidders Construction, “We are stuff…that dreams are made on”

Dark Skies Construction, “Now is the winter of our discontent”

Mad Dog Builders, “Though this be madness, yet there is method in it”

Backdoor Handyman, “Et Tu, Brute?”

Love it or Leave it Construction, “To be or not to be, that is the question”

I am the Guy Remodeling, “I dare do all that becomes a man; who dares do more is none”

Now and Then Construction, “Comparisons are odorous”

So you judge for yourself. Would Shakespeare have helped?

O, what men dare do! What men may do! What men daily do, not knowing what they do!
