I just installed crown in my bedroom, my wife got some custom wood blinds so I painted the windows with 3 coats SW enamel, Pro Classic brushed on and that layed pretty flat.

Then 3 1/2" MDF crown, coped corners everything tight as a knats a**.

Last piece coped on both ends and I screwed up and had to cut a scarf joint. 22.5 degrees just laid flat on the fence.
Glued and pinned a backer piece and ended up nice except for a small 1/16" gap (fat 16th) if you know what that means:rolleyes3:

Filled with Elmers wood fill from a tube, will sand and its getting 2 coats of enamel.

Could I have done anything better?

I'm thinking the cut will disappear with the filler and 2 coats paint.

Looks like a "strong" 1/16th.

Acrylic enamel or Alkyd?

I'd think it should be fine. I like Min-wax High Performance Wood Filler over regular wood filler... It's a bondo-like product (2-part). No shrinkage and doesn't crack.

Acrylic.
Yeah, you could say its a strong 1/16th:laugh3:

That's why I used strong filler:laugh3:

Corners are good, but only carpenters types look at those. Wife likes the crown so I'm good.

No, No its a weak 1/8th, the filler is redwood color, its the first thing I found in my shop.
I'll be damned if I had to go back to the lumber yard on a Saturday, thats when the place if full of woodworkers.

I would've tried shimming each end out on the adjacent corners, make up that 1/8" easily without cutting the double cope in half.

I knew I'd hear something that would work better.:2thumbsup:

The trim will look good, if I didn't think I could make that disappear I would have bought another piece. I hardly ever buy extra because I hardly ever need too.
For a customer, I would have bought another 16' piece of crown. The one thing I don't like about MDF is how it flops around. Other than the roundness on the edges painted MDF looks pretty good.
