On occasion I use biscuits for joinery. Since my Kreg pocket screw machine I rarely use biscuits. But they do have there place in certain circumstances. I am building a mirror frame and it has a curved cut on the inside of the frame that gets within 3/4" of the frame. So it is to skinny to use a pocket screw, the hole is 2" long and I can't have it show. Plus the screw would get in the way of the rabbet that will contain the mirror.

So I get my biscuits out and most of them are swelled up so they don't fit in the slots without a lot of force. So, to fix that, I stick them in the microwave. 20 seconds on each side :laugh3: After they get heated up they release some moisture and they shrink down in thickness by a bit. Usually just enough to make them fit snug, but install with hand force instead of a hammer.

So that's the trick, I microwave my wood. :mad2:

Thats the start of an article for you right there.

Get a couple pics up and one or two more tricks you have learned and let Paul do his magic. Paul loves to write about his members. Then we will throw it up on FreePressRelease.com and PubArticles.com and in the blog.

Have you thought about an article in ThisIsCarpentry? They appear to be taking guest writers & I think you would be great in there.

I must say that it has come a long way & in most cases beats the rest of only online mags hand downs simply for being readable

Nope, can't say that I'd ever see myself as a writer. Ask my English teacher, on second thought, don't ask. I don't need to be reminded of the "D's" I've gotten.

I already bake the saw blades
with Easy-Off to clean them.
Why not nuke some biscuits
at the same time? :laugh4:

Easy off? Isnt that a bit extreme? I stick with Simple Green on blades... Can the caustic oven cleaner damage the brazing on the carbide?

That's a good trick, the microwave tip.

I've been using Sipo, which I think is also referred to as African mahogany, dominoes with the Festool domino cutter this week.

Exterior treatment getting the domino joints, so the regular beech was no good. I haven't noticed them swelling yet. It's been pretty hot and dry out here in the PRK.
