Here's a little wine cellar we just wrapped up yesterday.

Project was a 3' x 5' closet turned into a wine cellar. We removed drywall, added new vapor barrier and insulation, installed a Vino Temp 2500 SSW split cooling system, installed custom designed cherry wine racking which is back-lit by some rope lighting, and an insulated glass door.

This is by far the smallest wine cellar I have ever built but it turned out better than I expected and more importantly, my clients love it.

Chris,

The vino is on the wall to the right as you walk in...it's such a tight space I couldn't even get a good picture of the entire rack let alone the cooling unit. I've got to swap out the cover on the cooling unit yet since it got scratched during shipping, I will try to take a picture of the unit then, just to share it here. It's different than any unit I have used before.

Remember the cigar room/wine cellar we were discusing a month or two ago? I should have that one wrapped up within the next two weeks and I'm very happy with how it is turning out. I can't wait to share that one here.

Nice work! Do you have the millwork made for you? Off the shelf materials? Special ordered?

Really nice.
It would show better if your watermark
was a little more subtle though.

Ha, funny you should ask...after I've been on here advocating the use of good subcontractors...this one I decided required my personal attention due to the special size requirements of the racking to fit in this space, the unusual design of the side wall rack, and that the client wanted the racks built out of cherry (which isn't an option with most racking companies).

I usually just buy the standard racks from a wine racking company and modify them to fit my needs but this one I decided to build from scratch in my shop. The only standard profiles I used here was the baseboard and the crown molding. All the rest of the lumber was rough sawn cherry planed down to 5/8" thinkness.

So here I am, the guy who tells everyone to use good subcontractors and vendors to your advantage, and now I admit on occasion I too have to take matters into my own hands to have the peace of mind that it is going to get done right and on schedule so I can sleep at night. This is not the most productive use of my time but a man has got to do what a man has to do. :smash:

I agree with Neo, too... You might consider toning down the watermark a tad--it distracts from your nice work.

Montrachet's are my favorite.

I don't even want to say what my initial reaction was to this question and then I saw your reference to Montrachets and realized what you meant. :laugh3:

Agreed....I will tone it way down before posting on my website

WTF did you think I meant
WHTE WINE AS OPPOSED TO RED.
Geez
The refrigeration unit was the tip off.
White's (wine) like 55 degrees and 50% humidity
Reds (wine again) aren't nearly as fussy.

After reading your replies and re reading my op with your posts in mind I can see the misunderstanding:mad2:
It did sound kind of bad
Thank you for knowing what a Montrachet is

I snapped a few pics of the cooling unit last week so I could show you what it looked like.

Here is the Evaporator Unit (located in the wine cellar). I sent the cover back because you may notice it had a few minor surface scratches on it when we received it. I told the manufacturer they really should cover it with that blue plastic film you find on stainless steel appliances but I don't think they cared what I had to say. :rolleyes3:

Here is the Condensing Unit (located in the mechanical room).

Here I took a picture to show the room the cellar adjoins.

I keep my white a little less then 55... I have over 100 bottles currently and prolly 75% whites.. Most reds I have I use for gifts... and dont keep in temp controlled units.

No, can't say I've had the pleasure yet but would be happy to meet her if you have a relationship with her.

I have met her on a few jobs thru another contractor that works up that way. She is out of Wilmette I believe. I do not wok up that way much as its about 60 miles from me.

I know what you mean, especially with traffic. My old man and several friends live out in Naperville. It's not an easy drive from here to there.

Most of my work is in that area, and around there.. I still live south of NVille :)
