Has anyone tried out this new O/S? I guess it's due to hit the market in Nov. sometime, but there are trial systems out there for use.
I'm downloading the final RTM Gold for it as I type. Just thought I'd ask if others have tried it out yet.

You think the 400 million searches for "RC" will send them here LOL!!

Just curious Rory,
Do you run your business app's on a Mac? When I made the leap into better computers several months ago I was told by many people that the Macs, as nice as they are, didn't do well with Quickbooks and Excell. Those 2 are everything I need to run a business. (and ms word)

I use windows because I have too and the software limitations and work around for Mac's are annoying to me for now. But I am starting to lean that way a bit.
Macs are super expensive in comparison to PC's, a big factor when you need 4-5 of them every couple of years

Unless you're running a Panasonic Toughbook w/ dual processors. The business end of things is the only reason I stayed with a P/C. lol

I've been running Win7 for a few months now and think it's great.
The subject of comparing a Windows machine and Mac are simple.
They are both a tool to do the same job, just like a power tool.
One is open and allows anybody to make accessories for it (hence more complications with getting them all to play nice together)
The other is a closed system, and only accessories available are from the original Mfg, making it easy to play nice together since they control every aspect.

One question answered and I will install. Will I be able to play WoW (without additional lag)?

Think of an OS that's as fast as xp with all the eye candy and security of Vista.
Ryan,
If it works in Vista, it'll work in 7 only faster.

Graphics quality went down. Sketchup looks like trash. Loading up WoW now to see what it looks like.
edit: WoW looks decent, I wonder why sketchup sucks now?

Is there a service pack out yet for 7? A good and knowledgeable friend told me never to install a new Windows OS before the 1st service pack is out.

Animations/Moving Graphics in general look like (SHIT). Was watching an animated show and the quality was way below average.
This plus sketchup, makes me wonder.
Mostly anything with a black outline, the line is choppy and not sharp at all.
I updated the driver for Win7 64bit from nVidia with no improvement at all.
I've googled "poor video quality in Windows 7" and it seems there are many people with similar issues.

I don't think they release service packs until after the OS is officially released.

What graphics card you are using Ryan?

Thanks, Winchester. That's what I thought about service packs. Problem my friend said was hackers swarm in on beta versions and other early release versions and exploit them mercilessly. It takes time and a lot of affected people before a pack comes out to patch the vulnerabilities. I'll wait.

I've never thought about that Mike, good to know.
Ryan,
I'm using EVGA 9800gt x 2 in mine and it's clear as a bell. My notebook is nothing special, but it's clear also. Now I feel bad for recommending.:(

I knew the risks when I installed. I;ve been through all the windows OS's (besides ME; even I knew better than that)
It's an EVGA e-GeForce 9800 GTX (only one :p)
Everything looks fine, photos are clear, it's just animated graphics and video and CAD programs that look bad.

Win7 installs a default graphics adapter initially. Try manually running a check for updated drivers. My first install was on an old laptop not capable of displaying the Aero package, looked goofy for a couple of days, then windows popped up a message saying there is an update for my video card. Worked like I expected after.
(Most Vista drivers will work on Win7, you could install those)

While there is some truth to this it's more the reverse currently. I usually recommend the same except it's more for bugs and compatibility. Win7 is basically Service pack two of Vista.
More and more OS exploits are discovered and expoited by reversing engineering the patch. Knowing a large number of computers are not kept up to date.
One of the largest outbreaks to date is because of this very reason. A patch was released in October 2008 to date and estimate of up to 30% of PC still have not updated their systems.

There are a few noticeable improvements in speed.
I do like Win7 better in general, though.

My vid card has always been listed as the "nVidia 9800 GT/GTX". I did install the Win7 x64 drivers from the nVidia website with no noticeable improvements.
I have heard that people are having better luck with the Vista drivers but some said it can cause hanging in games. Not that I play many games, I just don't like the "sacrificing one thing to fix another" type solutions, so I might just wait until it's ironed out and live with the crappy vid quality for now. They seem to have updates almost daily.

I am heavily invested into Windows now. All of our guys have tablet pc's, Windows Phones and the office runs it as well.
The software just gives us too many problem and it seem like your always tweaking something or creating a work around.
When the stuff we have reaches its shelf like we may consider going to mac. The biggest limitation like others have mention is the lack of software that is Mac compatible
