It's a new Motorola phone running the Google Android Operating System.
It was heavily influenced by input from google on it's functions.

Are you going to get one Rory?

Got a BB contract coming up soon and when I renew I want the best of what ever they have this time. Seems like I always get "previous years" hot item right before the new stuff comes out.

I did just pick up the Sprint MiFi 2200 (http://now.sprint.com/nownetwork/mifiProductPage.html?id9=SEM_Google_A_MiFi_Video) mobile hot spot though to replace my USB card and am pretty happy with it so far............so they will probably come out with a bigger/better one next month now :laugh3:

those sideways keyboards are a real pain to text or email with one handed.
If you drive and text a lot try one before you buy one.

Better just to not drive and text at all. Are you one of those ass holes that makes me miss the green light? I know they are thinking "oh I can text now the light is red" and then they give you the little "I'm sorry" waive when you get right on their bumper and then have to lay on the horn to make them pay attention.

I hate those people. :smash:

I don't drive and text. I'm against that, but I do have a wok and occaisionaly cook up some delicious stir fry when I'm on the highway but hardly never in city traffic.

I drink and drive on a regular basis but you will never catch me texting and driving..... that would be irresponsible.

A couple winters ago we were driving up this canyon. When I caught up to the engine I thought I would hit the air horn. That poor conductor was reading a paper or something and when I hit the horn his head SNAPPED up!

I truly think he thought there was a train barreling down the mountain and he was a goner! We laughed really hard but I felt kid of bad:o

That may not be a bad thing. I would like to read the reviews on CNET and a few other sights before jumping in anyway.

The BB has allot of issues (especially the track ball) but i knew about them ahead of time thanks to the reviews - so that made it less frustrating.

I wish I could afford to invest in Google.

I played with the Motorola Droid a little this weekend. I'm not too impressed. It's cool and seems to function pretty well but I won't be replacing my Blackberry Storm with it just yet.

If you don't have a good smart phone already it would be a solid purchase. It's very close to the size of an iPhone, but with a physical keyboard, not just an on-screen keyboard. That is s big plus for me.

I was more impressed with the HTC version (Eris) which didn't get as much press, and it's $100 cheaper.

Motorola DROID review

It's hard to look at the DROID without looking at the company which brought the device to life. Motorola: for years the name has been synonymous with... well, disappointment. While the industry-stalwart made cellphones sexy with the RAZR, the days which followed have not been especially fruitful or compelling. Over the past year or so, we've seen Motorola beating its way back into the mainstream through a series of smart plays: first embracing Android as a platform, then shucking off the weight of Windows Mobile and finally bringing some desirable (and high profile) devices to market.

With the DROID, the company has perhaps created its most attractive and intriguing piece of technology yet. Forging an alliance with both Verizon and Google, Motorola has come up with a second compelling reason to count the phonemaker down, but certainly not out, while the other two giants have finally found a seemingly worthy device to position against the iPhone. So we must pose these questions: is this the phone which will catapult Android into the mainstream? Is it the device that will pull Motorola back from the brink? And -- most importantly -- is it the lynchpin Google and Verizon have needed to challenge the leader in mindshare in the smartphone market? After putting the device through its paces, we think we can give you the answers you seek -- so read on to find out!

I'm too busy shaving and eating a bowl of cereal to be texting while driving !

Needham —

A 48-year-old Needham man was cited for negligent driving after police suspected of him of driving erratically while eating a bowl of cereal on May 7.

Needham Police received multiple calls about a vehicle driving erratically on Central Avenue, near Parrish Road. Police responded to the area and spotted the car, a gray Oldsmobile, and pulled it over. One of the officers talked to one of the reporting persons, who said the car was “all over the road” and crossed the double yellow line. The reporting person also said the car was tailgating other vehicles.

While checking the status of the man’s license, police discovered the license had expired. And while doing an inventory of the car, police spotted a bowl of milk with cereal, which was still cold. The suspect reportedly told police he was hungry and was eating the cereal.

Police are seeking a criminal complaint against the man for unlicensed operation, failure to stay within marked lanes and operating to endanger. Based on the man’s prior driving record, police are pursuing an incompetent operator complaint against him.

And those women putting on their makeup while celling - WOW ! They are DANGEROUS!

Am I late to this party?

I have had the Samsung Moment (Sprint) for exactly 1 week today.

It has taken me almost that long to figure out all the nuances but I can say that I like it more each day.

I'm not a big app kinda guy, I only have 3 installed. However, the phone itself is really solid. It actually makes calls and they are clear, both how I hear and what the people say I sound like on the other end.

I have had "smart" phones for almost 10 years and just got rid of a Windows phone. It sucked! Nothing like having your phone crash daily.

The purpose of the new Android phone is to be able to "stay connected" while out of the home office. What I hope to do is transfer our current Word & Excel files to Google Docs. I'd like to get a bluetooth-enabled printer for the truck. This way, (technically) I should be able to open a Google Doc on my phone and print to the truck. I have also installed an app called TimeCard. It will help me log all of my hours and allow me to export them to a spreadsheet. I'm trying to become extremely organized!

I know 3 people that have BBs and I can say I believe the Android phone does everything just as well, if not better (for my needs).

My only issue has been battery life. I finally figured you can't leave everything running at all times (bluetooth, GPS, WiFi...) and that has helped tremendously.

I think it's a great phone and has loads of possibilities for helping me run my business. With time, there should be tons of apps available (I think there are already) and hopefully more that are business oriented.

:2thumbsup:

I am trying to decide between the Moment and the Palm Pre.. They both have features I like, good reviews and both seem up to the tasks I require..

Did you look at the Palm PRE or Pixi Angus??

Did you look at the Palm PRE or Pixi Angus??

When I went looking, my requirements were 1) Large screen 2) QWERTY keyboard.

I originally was looking at the Touch Pro 2. Very large screen, best keyboard on any phone. Down sides were it's a Windows phone and $350.

While waiting to see what upgrades I was eligible for, I saw both the Pre and the Moment. The Pre was immediately eliminated from contention because of how small the keyboard is. The screen was a bit small too. I probably could have dealt with it but I felt there were better options. Then I got my mits on the Moment. I was able to compare side-by-side with the Touch Pro 2. TP2 had a slightly bigger screen and definitely better keyboard but did NOT seem $200 better.

I think the Android is a wonderful phone and as I said, I'm learning new things about it daily and loving it! I believe you need to really see them in person to decide but even though I heard wonderful things about the Pre, once I saw it in person, it is just too small. I believe the Pixi has the exact same keys as the Pre. I could not type without hitting multiple buttons at once.

FWIW, I wear XL gloves.

The Pre uses Palm Web OS. It's claim to fame is it can run multiple apps at a time. I've heard pretty good things about it but it is smaller than it appears on TV.

I thought it had its own OS and I wonder if Nokia bought them if they would go with Winblows or something else.
