Looks like a couple of members have sites built by footbridge. DO you like them? Have they made a difference in your business? DO you use the newsletter/rocket refferal plan?

Some love it, some like it, some have moved on from them.
I have never used the newsletter feature.
FB is a good fit for me right now.

I've been happy with them. Aaron is very responsive to requests and changes come quick.
I've never used the newsletter either, a poll of my best customers lead to that decision.
My site went up in march 09. I'm now consistently placed on first page of organic searches thanks in part to an aggressive PPC campaign. I'm reigning back the PPC in '10 (making it more specialized to weed out the chaff) so it'll be interesting to see how that changes traffic.
A lot of the content from Footbridge is generic. I've been slowly re-writing it to better suit my style over this year and will completely rewrite it over the winter. For $125/mo, I have zero complaints.

Do you find that the site converts clicks into sales? It is one thing to just have a site, but do you get business from it?

I have one... Aaron made it over a year ago, and I sent him whatever lousy pics I could find... I've since compiled some much better content, but havent sent it off to him for a site rebuild. There's a lot of nonsense text that I guess is meant for SEO... I tend to think a knuckledragger like myself would find it feels fake.
When I get some time, I'll go through each page to reword it better. For the time being, it gets a bit of traffic, and has brought me some work. It brings a lot of tire kickers too, but Im getting better at weeding them out before spending hours on site visits and bid compilations.

I absolutely get work from it. There are a good amount of requests from the site but, maybe its a northeast thing, most people call me after finding me on the web.
In addition to the direct leads from the site, most of the recipients of my extensive direct mail look us up on the site. Google analytics allows me to review performance and I can tell when ads are hitting, its school vacation week or the weather sucks based on site traffic.
I didn't have a site before footbridge so can't compare but it feels like its working great.

I have been on for 3 years like them for price and SEO. When I complained to Aaron about my content and design work he said that I am the only contractor that has ever complained about it and seemed to be offended that I would suggest such a thing.
I'm thinking "what the hell? I hear guys complaining about the exact same thing all the time - why am I the only one speaking up?" I wasn't busting his balls - it is a legitimate complaint that any web designer would recognize as valid.

At the end of the day they're just a bunch of cube jockeys. Just ask again and repeat as necessary until it's where you want it. I eventually came to the conclusion that the resistance you felt is their version of a consultation fee; a way to ensure the change request wasn't a whim.
I've let mine simmer long enough that I can point to statistics to justify my demands.

Thanks for the info guys. I went with them. Had friends (not pros) or myself building sites before, so even thier designs have to be better than mine.

Just like hiring a contractor, I think using someone "known" is very important.
As a mod on another forum, I see lots of "spam" , IPs from China that are joining the forum and posting a company site that was made by a USA site developer. Seems like some SEO companies will do anything to get their customers ranked.
Bikerboy, I have heard a lot of good reviews about Footbrige here and on CT,
sounds like a good company!

That is how I got started as well - anything was better than what my buddies and I were putting out :laugh3: I think you will be pleased for sure. Especially when you shoot to the top Google. :2thumbsup:
Save yourself some headaches down the road and get together as many great pics of you and your staff as possible. They can always be changed out later but you need them for place holders right now. Then write up as much of your own content as possible and let them add to it.
Don't feel bad about having them redo something several times until you are 100% happy with it. I was told that I should have done that in the beginning - but back then I didn't want to seem like a PITA that was never satisfied ...... I learned my lesson don't have that problem anymore. :laugh3:
