Some of you may have seen this before (at that other place) but I was recently out there again and took photos of it furnished.

I'm disappointed I don't have pictures of this one before we started work but here's what we did:

- Faux painted all of the white shelves and paneling to look like wood

- Built new wood fireplace mantle and stone surround

- Refinished the floors in the Library, Dining Room, and Wet Bar area.

- Painted the Sun Room and Wet Bar

- Stripped and replated the historic brass hinges on the doors

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm the GC. If you are asking if I did any of the painting, god no, I can barely paint the address numbers on the permit sign but I'm the lead on all my jobs if by lead you mean the boss. I have 3 different painting subcontractors I work with on a regular basis, each has their place. These particular painters kick butt at faux painting but they are uber expensive, as they should be!

Thanks but I can't take too much credit for that. It was existing but was a very tarnished green cooper. We just cleaned it up at the clients request. That took a ton of elbow grease but that's about it.

What I meant was who took over, this is going to look like this etc. I suppose that was you. You redesigned it.

Well, if you aren't going to get too technical on my terminology, I can give you an idea of what happened here but if you want more specifics about the products used PM me and I can give you the painters contact information. I'm sure he'd be better able to explain his process than me.

After all their prep work they put on a brown base coat. Then they used all kinds of different tools to make the faux worm holes and scuff marks. They mostly used different sized nail sets and bolts and screws to get all the different types of looks we were looking for. After that they did several different coats of different color glazing. They would take the small pencil thin paint brushes and fill all the worm holes with a dark almost black glaze, they rolled the bolts in a dark brown glaze and rolled the sideways in a random pattern, and then they did a brush/rag combo technique with a light brown glaze. They finished it off with a seal coat.

Oh. I got you. There was a decorator involved. She described what she wanted and we would do sample boards and then she would describe how she'd like us to tweak it and she just checked in a couple of times to see how it was working. It really wasn't bad or not as bad as it could be working with a decorator. I think it took us two sample boards to get the faux right, we originally had light brown vertical strips on the walls in the wet bar and she thought that was too busy so we had to repaint that, and it took about 6 swatches on the wall in the sunroom to get the right color which was a bit much but I've seen much worse.

Yes, that's copper. It was existing. We were just asked to clean up the tarnish. It shined up well.
