ive used pvc, hardie and aluminum wrap and miretec
for clean lines and low cost the aluminum wrap is a good way to go
the hardie and miretec are to me pretty similar.heavy, rounded edges, just not a clean look to me but they are ok
pvc is great, easy to tool, clean crisp lines many more options using crowns and moulding and such but not cheap, imo everything but the aluminum wrap needs to be painted

I'll be doing some work with Azek this week to see if it's all that people claim it is

Personally I don't care what it is as long as it isn't wood unless you want to make replacing it your life's work

miratec or azek or rotfree from lowes is all good. Miratec specs state that it must be away from concrete.. I have always wondered if that would include hardie.. BUT the way I look at it is how much money do you want to spend? Miratec for the budget trim out, the other (azek or rotfree) for the more costly piece. Just get you some gripper primer for the vinyl or a comparable primer. You will be good to go then :)

I am looking at Royal PVC for an up coming job.
I have used some of their flat boards, and their
PVC brickmold has been here since before Azek
even offered moldings.
It is a bit cheaper than Azek, and I can get more
stock profiles.
Downside is, a quick look showed the Despot as
their dealer in D.C. proper.

there's a guy over ct digging up old pvc threads plugging this product from the U.K. maybe an advance scout for the company, who knows

http://www.kbp.co.uk/

his user name is the same as this company's
interesting concept, they figure pvc is going to move so they seem to have come up with a system of pre made corners and seam overlays that get siliconed to the prefinished trim, they have different colors and grains

also interesting is they have a ring shank nail with a plastic head that color matches

not sure how that look translates here tho,we like to see our trim more seamless

I was told a long time ago, using Miratec with Hardie voided the Miratec warranty. Any truth to that?

I have always used Miratec with Hardie siding, I have no reason for it. I was the sub and thats how it was.

This is false i have seen Miratec spec'd to many times commercial and residential projects for that to be true..

I think in some instances it is a better option than Hardie

Used to use Miratec w/ Hardie. Now use all Hardie and getting decent prices.

We're pretty simple down here. Mostly cementitious trim products. I prefer installing western red STK board and batten over any other type of siding. A good shot of penophin oil and you're good for 5 years. Beautiful when finished.
