6 weeks after the initial email to me, the winner of the 2009 Real Outdoor Living Backyard Oasis has there brand new deck. Almost 4 weeks for vetting, design work & contract negotiations, & just over 2 full flat out weeks of work.

Did you take your deck joists back over the concrete wall under the bay and block between or replace the band board and attach to it?

The posts - originally placed on the 3 1/2" wet slab & allowed to sink in about an inch - that should hold an 11' high deck up on the mountain, right? Originally it looked like the posts were fully sunk through the slab & resting on the bedrock. The last picture shows the concrete poured in the 20 x 20 x12 pier footing I had to dig under the slab.
The water damage was fixed by another contractor she used in the past and fortunatly had there own open permit - this was mostly so that the deadline would still be made and who knows how long the nice weather would hold out.

Patience Naptown... there's a reason I don't have 100 articles on my blog yet, or a 1000 posts here yet.
The Posts going in, the stairs & the joists - double joists on both sides of the bay, double joist in front
They use the 2003 code in Huntsville, not sure if attaching it would be allowed, but I generally follow the Fairfax Virginia standards & have started upgrading some items to the 2009 standards

I had the ones fixing the rotted sections use the Grace Wrap I had bought, after the framing was done I installed the 6" flashing followed by another layer of the Grace Wrap
I went with the decking installed diagonally on the joists 12" OC - this thing is solid as all get out. Of course the glue & screws help a little to...

Last set - you have got to love a Building Inspector that hops out of there car holding a stack of red tags. Walks around, asks some questions & says "your no fun, there's nothing to pick on - I wish all the decks I looked at were like this"

It was raining today & I simply hosed everything off - it really could do with a pressure washing from all the mildew growing there

David - thanks and yes they plan on doing it come spring time --- the wood needs to dry out first & then they will have to wait for the temps to come up

Yes they are, especially when it appeared that their old one would have been on the ground in about a year.
