IRC 2009 fire sprinkler requirement

What's everyone's thoughts on this? I know localities can change requirements, but what about the idea itself? Found this on my latest JLC update. Interesting.

Personally - its ridiculous, especially if the house is made of ICF's, masonry, steel framing, etc... I don't recall seeing any exclusions for those types of houses, but I could be mistaken

Should it be mandatory on Multi Family dwellings - yeah, it probably should be

They have it on the books here but don't enforce it. Condo's, Commericial buildings and government buildings are about it.
