It will take 5 months to turn our 958 square foot craftsman into a 1950 square foot home with a new modern kitchen, and a 2nd floor addition with a master suite. We have created a blog to document the project and our experience as our GC guides us through the unknown.
Since we're new here, we can't post a link. So to help you find it...

Feel free to post comments, suggestions, etc. We want our blog to be as informative as possible for those considering a large remodel.

Our General Contractor just began a 5 month project to double the size of our bungalow in Houston, while preserving and restoring most of the original structure. We invite you to visit us on our blog.
Bye Bye Tiny Sad Kitchen (dot com) is the link to our blog. Feel free to comment!

Festus,
Did your contractor advise you of the current EPA Lead Safety law? Did he provide a copy of the Renovate Right pamphlet and did you sign a receipt for that document?
I ask these questions because it appears from the pictures on your blog that your house was built before 1978.

Wow, you guys really had to jump through some hoops, spend money, with no guarantee on a return to your investment. I live in a historic district and can appreciate what you have been through.
Do any of the jurisdictions offer tax incentives for rehabbing historic properties?
