Got my crude profile up on Facebook, but now what? I signed up as me, with my personal email. Damn, I've got friends I didn't even know I had.

Should I have, or can you, sign up as a business, or with business creds? What's best?

Well - I hear yah on that...I had a person approach me once in a business realm and wanted me to contact him via Facebook since there are pictures posted from friends or acquaintances and frankly I didn't feel comfortable doing that simply because there are some things I do at the bar (take shots, make faces) that I don't do in the office.
For business matters, I would highly suggest Linked In, an in person meeting or email. Making a separate business facebook or MySpace would probably be just as fitting.
It's not that you're hiding who you are (actually that's exactly what it is) but you're going to want to put your best foot forward. Having someone view your "personal" facebook page isn't going to necessarily pertain to the qualities a person offers career-wise. More power to those who do.

Make a business page so it does not get cluttered with personal. Also the business pages show up in searches and are viewable to the public, and your personal info is not.
Then become a fan of similar pages.
Look at the bottom left of the page on your homepage, there is a button to add pages and ads.

I'm on LinkedIn, just starting on FB. My daughter said she would walk me through the privacy settings, (apparently that's important to do it right), and said to set up a business page. Thanks.

Good point on the privacy, for your personal page there is a setting to not allow FB to use your pictures in ads. I read about it on Twitter!

Actually it's all about the settings. I have mine set right now to only allow contacts to view my wall. Peeps that have their company page up can select the open feature where everyone can view. So in essence what you have up is one site for your devil side and one site up for your angelic side.

If you want to allow a business contact to view your personal page then "you" get to make that decision.

Has anyone gotten any leads from Facebook though ? I have a personal page, that I really dont use, I am not sure setting up one for my business would have much effect on my leads.

Good question about leads. Do people look on there for business contacts or do they just collect friends and say they are on FB?

Most of my friends are drunken fools, the types you really dont want posting on a page that you are trying to make look professional. I dont really have alot of contacts with other trades at this point, I am looking to network more with other trades in my local area, I am just not too sure how many of them use Facebook, and even if they do are they just using it as a back link to their websites.
Life was easier before all of the residential construction went away ........

no it's socializing, but it doesn't hurt to let old friends know what you do and how to contact you when their house or their friends house or neighbor's house is collapsing. I thought everyone hated me until I started a facebook and these peeps pop out of the woodwork to find you. About 5-6 people per month on average find me. Have hooked up with old contacts in three countries and as long back as a child 40 years ago.

It's really interesting how the tangled web of folks you have known throughout your life are really only a click away and the way the network is set up lends itself to connecting for you with minimal effort.

There was a movie some time back where the guy said he could reach anyone on the phone within 3 calls. Don't remember any more than that, but maybe MALCO remembers. May have been the forerunner to social networking.

I haven't tried out face book yet, but I'm on twitter. I think it's all about building up a wider presence on the internet and adding back links to your site that helps make your site work better as a lead generator. I'll be going there soon along with LinkedIn.

Point your FaceBook profile to your contractorland.com (http://www.contractorland.com) profile which should be pointed to your main company web site!! = )

I am impressed by your abilities also, but not everything is about you. http://www.thescubasite.com/smile/indifferent/indifferent0022.gif (http://www.thescubasite.com/Scuba-Diving-in-Mexico/scuba-diving-in-mexico)
