Howdy all, looks like some familiar folks are already here. For those of you who don't know me, I've been in new construction for about 25 years. I have been a framer by trade, but have also gotten quite a bit of experience in all phases of carpentry including residential roofing, wood/vinyl/cement siding, PVC exterior trim, decks, interior trim and kitchen/bath cabinetry installation. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing some tips and experiences with everyone.:D

I asked Loneframer here. Because Paul and I both agreed his framing experience and knowledge is second to none.
We want to create a section (if lone agrees) to highlight framing techniques and tips.
We will include photos and videos if possible of how framing is done by a true professional that cares about his craft and his customers

I sincerely appreciate the acknowledgement and will do all I can to highlight the finer points of what I do. I have been fortunate to have worked alongside some very talented carpenters, who have passed ther knowledge onto me and I will be happy to do the same.
Now, you guys have to educate me as to how this will come to fruition.

We are working on adding the you tube feature that will allow us to post videos directly to the site.
So it will be a combination of photos you have that can show a specific task or us sending you a video camcorder to record video that we can edit down and make into a youtube video to post here.
Give me about a week to get the details to you until then post those bad azz pics that you have.
We will create sections for Pro guys to discuss and answer question and post their stuff for guys to learn

I think they were some type of south of the border comfortwear, but I'm not sure. They looked really comfortable though. He's a code enforcement official somewhere near Mexico city now.

I'm waiting on the painter to splash on a new color on the stucco. I'll get pics up when he's done. The weather has been unusually wet for summer here.

Hmmmm. The most exciting thing I have coming up is an eight sides gazebo on a second level deck. I have to admit I am not much of a framer so I have to rely on my archy to detail the connections, especially since it is not equilateral.

On those types of octagons, I figure all my rafters to the fascia line, then work back to the birdsmouth with the same rise from bottom of fascia. Just hope the archy doesn't throw in any barrels or eyebrows to sdlow things down.

This is a free-standing gazebo at the outer edge of a deck 10' off the ground. I told the archy I could just move the joists under the gazebo 90* to achieve a different plank pattern for the decking. Nope, can't do since footers are different for just about every one of the eight posts and doing that changes the load on the band boards. In the good ole days, I would have sketched out something on a napkin, taken it to the County, and gone from there. They would have said, ok, we'll check the details when we inspect. Now, they want deck load calcs, beam deflection rates, side load for wind calcs, engineering stamps, and if you don't have everything they think they want, you go and start over.
So now, I use the services of an archy a lot more cause I don't know enough of this stuff to make it work efficiently.
