Ok why can't we all get along?

Why do contractors and Architects battle each other to the death?

Why can't we recognize each others jobs and respect the boundaries?

I have work with many architects in my 20 years of remodeling and building projects and I have wanted to do serious bodily harm to a few Archi's I have met along the way, I am sure they wanted to do the same to me as well

I respect their schooling and need to create beautiful designs, but I have to build it.

If I tell you it is not a good idea to do something or it will not work why won't you believe me?

My portfolio is as impressive as yours.

My projects are complicated and I have a pretty good grasp of what will and won't work structurally.

So when I ask to meet you in the office to discuss changes or modifications to make the project easier and actually buildable, why must you stick your chest out and proclaim to me that you are the ruler of the universe or show me you plaques and degrees on the walls?

I have never seen a plague out in the field building anything. I might have missed it but I don't think that has ever happen

I feel like taking you out to my truck and showing you my tools and listing the projects they have created and stand back and proclaim us equals.

So can we make up now shake hands and proceed from here on out as friends, equals and make the homeowners happy.

So once again why can't we all just get along?

Ironic, isn't it, that architects and engineers trace their heritage to the master builders of the past, and yet they disdain the master builders of today. The builders of the cathedrals whose works are almost all still standing after nearly a thousand years. The stuff architects are churning out today won't outlive the century, some of the most spectacular will need rebuilding or demolition much sooner.

Is there anywhere in the world where architects and engineers are required to get their hands dirty before getting licensed? Conversely, can master builders fast-track to designer status comparable to architects, etc? I'm sure we're all tired of having iron rings stuck in our faces.

The reasons you stated above are exactly what has made the concept of design build the best choice for an owner. Having the architecture and construction ends of the business under the same roof eliminates many if not all of the arguments. This is not to say that arguments will never happen but at least the homeowner is not in the middle of the argument.

Do you realize how many screwed up hack contractors there are running around and performing sub-level and getting away with it.

I am sure that a similar amount of unqualified architects are doing the same.

It has to be a case of I don't trust you until you prove it and even then I still won't trust you too much.

There neck is on the line even though they are not doing the work.

Anybody can make a building stand up. An engineer can make a building barely stand up.
