What is an easy first time project for the DIY types?

Of all the DIY project what was the ones you enjoyed the most?

You will get good people as long as they understand clearly the purpose here. The few oddballs who sneak in can be weeded out quickly.

Took an alarm clock apart when I was 13 and got it all back together. Only one leftover part; the mainspring. :(

No way, that just shows a lack of faith on our part.
We are posting to make sure Friday goes well.
Either this place gets good people or it goes south (like where Fez Head lives)

I can't believe we actually got a guy who posts as Fez Head. LOL!

Do not screw with a Noble of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine..............we are everywhere and we are watching......:cool:

I would say writing two checks, one when I show up and one when I am done. No 1099 needed.

My first remodel job was our service van. We had a family business and I got peed off at my oldest brother and quit the family.

So I cleaned out the service van and laid carpet all on the walls and this fake like long hair on the roof.Put in a sunroof and some teardrop side windows.Added in some cool bucket seats and a sofa bed in the back.

Had my buddy paint some neat strips on the outside with some wheels and tires.

This took about 2 weeks since I had no job. I was like the first one in my area to have a cool van like this. I had a guy come up to me and ask me to build a van for him.

That was the start of "Custom Van Pads" and I had the company for 10 years before I sold out. Never did go back to the family business and paid the price when my dad died. He left it all to my brother. Oh well!

So this was my first DIY job.

Marlite paneling for my aunt, all I had was a hammer, tape and square plus I had a jig saw (saber saw).
Bought a hand plane during lunch the first day.
Did her kitchen and bath and 20 years later she still gave me compliments.

Bought a circular saw with the money.

Each of my DIY attempts have involved trips to the ER.
Hence, I am not permitted to be on ladders above 2 steps (broken arm, sprained ankle), touch power tools (don't ask) or tools that can cut (stitches).

I repainted my front door. Got a paint chip from the door to match it exactly at the paint store. My neighborhood ass(ociation) tried to fine me for not getting approval for the 'color change'. My door is navy. My neighbor's is raspberry pink.

Oh, and I'm not allowed to fish either. Double-barbed fish hook lodged in bone of my finger. That was fun. Then there was "the bowling incident" - I picked a ball that was 12 lbs because it matched my outfit. Droped it on my foot. Broke a bunch of bones/toes.

My first wood project was a toy chest for my son. I had a jigsaw, a drill, a hacksaw and a pattern. I built a deacon's bench and attached a hinge so that it wouldn't slam shut on his little fingers. It became a storage for linens after he outgrew it and I lined it with cedar particle board.
Google Girl, I feel ya. My fishing trip with my family ended with a trip to the ER so that they could remove the fishing hook dangling from my ear lobe from my attempt at casting. I was six.

You have all your fingers from the jigsaw?

I see those things and imagine blood spattering everywhere.
(I wonder if I'd get a discount on my manicure if I am down a couple of fingers?)

Yes! All fingers still there, need manicure though. That why I don't have no man.

Because you can use a jigsaw or because you need a manicure?
