OK. I've got my computer up and running. Everything but my home network. I can't get it up and running.
The last time I set it up it took about 10 minutes and I had all my laptops and printers connected to each other. Now, I can even get two computers to connect.
I've tried everything 5 times. It just isn't working.
Where do I go form here?
Did the normal. Go to my network, go to the network wizard and follow the prompts. Give my computer a name and my network a name, let it reboot. Then I went to my other computers and did the same using different computer names but the same network name.
This is the error message:

I am the administrator on all computers.
I think the message of Network path not found is the problem. The only thing I can think of is my wireless routing information might have been screwed up in the retransfer of my information from the old HD to the new HD. This was installed when I received the computer from my cousin who usually does all my computer stuff for me. He lives 1 1/2 hours from me so I only use him when things are so bad that I have to use him. I would rather learn to do this stuff then have to have someone do it for me.

you need to type in the gateway addy for your nodes (computers) to be able to connect to the net. Something like 192.168.1.1 would be most default gateways for like a linksys router. You will want to type in "automatically choose IP" and then use what I put as the default gateway.. Most newer computers can detect networks though. You just have to (in the routers firmware) allow for a certain amount of IP addresses, and make sure that you write down the WEP password to allow those computers on the network. If your computers can autodetect the network set all to default (automatic) and all should be good. Are these all wireless or hardwired? If they are hardwired you will need to add the default gateway which I posted above.

I went through the whole thing and everything checked out. Still with the same problem. Maybe it is the administrator problem. Can't see how, since I am the administrator of all that be in my computer network.

Can each computer connect to the internet?
If so then you are connected. Just not allowed to others on your system.
Are you in the same Workgroup on each computer?
Do you have a firewall on? (windows firewall turns on by default)
- turn it off or tell it to trust local network connections
Do you have anything shared to connect too?

I'm guessing you're using XP? And you have internet access, just can't communicate from one computer to the next? Hmm? Am I right so far?

what is your set up Leo? We need to know that before we can try to work out the bugs. If it is wired you need to start at the nic card properties and make sure it has the proper gateway. Otherwise it won't be able to do squat. The gateway being that connections "address" if you don't have the address right you are not going to get your mail.
I know you know that, but you would be amazed at corporate networks and when they foul up, it is 99/100 due to operator error and the system not being set up correctly.

Wireless router - Netopia
all computers operate on win xp
I looked at my firewall and I can't shut the damn thing off. When I go to the firewall it says it is on, when I go into the area to turn it off it shows it as off. I click OK and no change happens. This is on my laptop which really has no problems, or so I thought.

My wife's laptop will print, I have copied all the settings from it into mine and I still get nothing. I can't access the network from her laptop either.

OK, I just turned to firewall back on then off and it turned off. Lets see if it changed anything.

The firewall was the problem. Cool. Let see if I can get this thing to print
THANK YOU.

Now I get my confusion. My zone alarm, which I use as my firewall was on and was set on high security which prevents my local network from functioning. It also explains why my firewall is shown to be active, XP firewall was off and ZA was on. When I turned both off my printer works. When I turned ZA back on it wouldn't print. That's when I checked what the security level was and changed it.
Now I know. What I don't know is why it was on high security, I don't ever remember changing it, but there it was - changed.

I told you I wasn't against thanking people. I just don't use a button to do so.
Simple as that.
