Fez
I am using it now. I am actually going to replace one of my business lines with it and give it a full test next month and see if it cuts the mustard.

Local numbers really don't mean much now everyone has free long distance

That's true. I could use it for our 24 hour emergency number if nothing else. Our emergency # is just the project manager's cell phone as of right now.
I had to add a second land line this year (with roll over when busy) for our office in addition to the e-fax and mobile phones......I assume you are replacing your second land line then?
I like the fact that it rings all of the service tech's and office phones at once.......but then again that may also be a bad thing.

I just set up my Google voice account. There were plenty of local numbers available in my area (Mpls). I was even able to search and find one close to my current cell last 4.
I haven't decided how it will help me most, but I think I'm with Rory. I'm going to put it out there as a business number and see what I can make it do for me.

I signed up to receive an invite a couple weeks ago, I think.
Unfortunately, I don't think there are Canadian area codes yet.

Canadians don't have area codes, eh? Still use Mabel at the general store to connect you to other people, I guess.

Ok so I tried out my google voice line today. Works very well. I was impressed on the features and ease of use.
Only draw back if you have the phones that the number is forwarded to all in the same room it is a brain drain.
Someone called the number and I was busy and my office phone, cell phone 1 and cell phone 2 rang irritated the hell out of me.
But it works well. I have to read up and try all the features soon

You can have it sent as an email or text message
Google Voice can automatically transcribe your new voicemail messages and send you the transcript to the email address and the SMS number you added in the 'Notifications' section above. (http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115986)And this sound cool, (Paul maybe we should try it on your website? Signed up for that invite yet?)
Call Widgets can be put on any web page, and allow people to call from that web page. When somebody clicks on the widget, we call them and connect them to you. Your number is always kept private. You can create multiple call widgets and have different settings for each of them.

Anyone using it full time yet?
I just got my new number, it has a lot of options. I'm leery of too much Google though.

So far I like the google voice program. It has some nice feature and the ability to call someone back from any phone but it shows up on their end as the number they dialed is a nice feature.
The transcripts are not that accurate. When someone leaves a message it transposed the message into a word format for you to read on your phone or in your email, it is maybe 50% accurate so far

I've had the same experience with the transcripts. not reliable. I had one that made no sense whatsoever, then another one that was right on.
When you're in the Google Voice dashboard you can mark the transcription as helpful or not. I think this will help their accuracy over time.

I was having issues with the Google Voice app Blackberry on my Storm.
I just found the fix and all is well. Here is what you need to do if you have a BB Storm.
You need to go into Options, Advanced Options, Applications, then tap (not click) on Google Voice, hit the menu button, and click on Disable Compatability Mode.

I have it as well but I'm sure what to do with it:o I already have a cell phone that I've spent years making my main number. And I'm nervous to give google the ability to 'pull the plug' on a new work number.
I wish I could use it for a fax line though.
