Just 1.3 seconds: That's all it took for a fall to change Chris Dongoski's life

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Chris Dongoski already knows the title of the book he may some day write: "How 1.3 Seconds Changed My Entire Life."
Prior to Nov. 8, Dongoski owned and operated his own painting business. Now he's operating a wheelchair.

Dongoski, who lives in Indianapolis, is a Decatur native and the middle son of Richard and Karen Dongoski of Cerro Gordo. He tells the story frankly, and as always, with his sense of humor coming to the surface.

"I spent seven years working on a ladder and never fell off a ladder."

But on Nov. 8, "I was in my back woods, on a great big sycamore tree," he said. The next thing he knew, he'd fallen 11 feet, landing on his back, pinching the spinal cord.

My Dad fell off a ladder back in the Fall and really messed his back up good. He's not quite back to 100%, but I can't imagine how our family would have been affected had he damaged it worse.

Be careful out there guys... and make sure your employees are being careful.

I once worked for a company that specialized in chimney repairs. A young guy fell backwards off a scaffold and was killed. The distance he fell was only eight feet.

On the Fine Hombuilding forum there is a fellow whose 70+ year old dad fell of a stepladder last fall, lasted for about 3 months.

My dad missed a set on a step ladder and fell, had to have back surgery.

I guess what I am saying is be carefull out there!!

PS. I have fallen off of 2 roofs back in the day and got right up and finished the days work!
