I have a client who is considering installing one of these wind turbines at his house. Does anyone have any experience with them?

http://www.enviro-energies.com/products.htm

They want the 10kW model. We have to check on county approval, zoning, etc, but what about installation? Only by the manufacturer? Too big for roof top? Pros and cons of this type of power source?

3 thousand pounds, 10 feet tall, and 20 foot diameter? Neighbor should be happy with it.

Can you imagine a twenty five mph wind. It would sound like Bahgdad at the height of Desert Storm.

Yes, 3K is pretty heavy if up on a roof, but this may be on a stand alone support. They have 3 acres kind of isolated. It keeps the noise level down since its mag-lev. Kind of cool, but at over 50K, it would take you forever to recover your costs in a residential setting.

there should be a kickback from the gov for this. Iwant to say you can get up to 40% of the cost of the unit and install of unit back as a tax break. Then there is a gradual decrease of tax break per year IIRC.

OK mike
are there any trees with in 200 yards of the placement?

This thing costs 51k and I think that is before installation but I can't be sure.

What is the average wind in the area

I do not believe that VA has any incentives for wind.
Right now they have pulled the plug on state rebates for solar.
TVA will purchase solar electricity at $0.13 per kilowatt hour over the standard rate.
They will purchase wind generated electricity at $0.03 per kw

They keep all the SREC's

Let me price up a system of the same size in solar and take a look at the difference in cost vs payback
I will need their zip code or a push pin on the house from google earth to calculate savings and payback. send it via PM
