I've been thinking about creating a separate page on my site for links directly associated to home improvement contractors and other similar resources for visitors to my site. Anyone interested in trading links? Possibly something that would include a small logo..and a text link that crawlers would pick up.

yea...something like that.
I'll bring this up again after I have been around for a while, no one around here really knows me beyond anything I post on the board. And the last thing anyone wants is to have a link posted on their site that could serve as a detriment to the individual posting said link.
Hind site..ain't it wonderful. :)

I looked into it a few times and everyone I spoke to said it did not do much for site rankings..
I think its a nice gesture for us to do it for each other.. But I am not convinced there is much ranking or back link juice to be derived from it..
I still will probably do it now that I have more control over what goes onto my site

I'm just looking for a way to put a few more links out there, my site is less than 3 months old and anything has to be some level of help. I was thinking something more along the lines of a large spread, geographically speaking. For example, Sean's link above shows a link to Orsons site, I wouldn't want my link there.
I know several people across the country, in several states..my idea would be to create a page where folks I know or didn't know could come to my site if they needed something, and be able to use it as a resource.
He and I are kinda close in proximity to one another. The point of this isn't to create an issue where I'd be stepping on someones toes. Its just an idea for getting a few more links out....
Somebody wipe this thread...

You will not step on anyones toes here. Gotcha, I think it is a good idea.. I will probably do it myself in a few weeks once I get some more stuff done to my new site..
I am willing to give it a go around in a few weeks

I'm a little skeptical as well that basic backlinks do much for your site though I would still do a links page if I were you.
Like you said, be carefull of who you exchange links with, but I think you're on the right track to crosslink with guys here who you have some knowledge of.
I don't see where you'd be stepping on anyone's toes to Xlink to Sean's page, or anyone else's that was interested. Certainly wouldn't step on mine.

A bunch of us painters did this last year, I do get hits from the other sites and I do believe it improved my ranking.
Here is mine (http://www.rcpaintinginc.com/Useful_Sites.html).
On my new site, I plan on a page of local trades.
Here (http://www.powerspainting.com/Helpful-info.html) is a good example.

If you wish to extend it beyond remodelers to product suppliers I'd be happy to exchange links. Check out my blog to see how I'm approaching it...if you see value in it shoot me an email and let me know. mike.hines@homepathproducts.com
By the way...that's an open invite to any an all...even trade.

A banner or logo would be good, and a link to your page..where you want visitors to land. Email me...and thanks.

Len is also working on something to add a RC directory for contractors on the forum might be a few weeks before it is up but it will be there for everyone to put all their info into it and then we can promote it on the web..

I have a Construction Partner's Page. Some are from here, CT, and other roofers. I've even added a couple of 'suppliers', and accessory types there. Many building Inspectors have linked to my site also.
Hasn't hurt that I can tell, and I get calls from 'referral' hits by having the links out there.

Just added section "Long Distance Remodeling" at the bottom of the page.

If you want on, get me City, State and URL link (home page or landing page - no porn sites). Sorry no logos. I don't want your image to be better than mine on my own site.
Reciprocal would be nice but not mandatory.
