View Full Version : Helluva joint. No not that type.

For my fellow woodworkers I thought I would show you one of my favorite joints.
I use a standard rail and stile cutter set mounted on shapers together with some shop-made fixtures. It gives a very clean, quick , and stable connection for corners. I use this standard on all 90, 45 & 30 deg corners.

"To friends and neighbors alike, STEVE ADAMS appeared to be nothing more than the young owner of the Broken Bow cattle spread. But when danger threatened innocent people.. and when evil doers plotted against justice... then Steve Adams disappeared and in his place came a mysterious, stalwart Indian... wearing the dress and war paint of a Comanche, riding the great golden palomino, FURY... galloping out of the darkness to take up the cause of law and order throughout the West... comes the legendary figure of... STRAIGHT ARROW!"

Hey Leo, when we work with real tools, that could cut and maim, disfigure the didgits for life, you're right we need to be straight. The stoners have the boardroom, why the heck can't they leave us alone with our joints. NO-- they have to try to chisel us, hammer us, and create a great saw about their degrees of angle. They sniff their fumes, inhale their lead, opine on great subjects that really have no validity to us real people. Are you board yet? Where would they be without our finishing up their project with great cabinetry.
When, I ask you was the last time you heard someone comment" Wow, would you look at that toenail, What a great taping job, and we all know plumbing is easy, shit runs down-hill.

Just a thought.

I had a friend that tried to make homemade champagne. He gave a couple of bottles to his brother in the UP and he placed them on his head board for show.

Well soon after they exploded in the middle of the night showering him with red champagne. Scared the hell out of him and his wife.

OH yeah, SOT..... Nice joint.

That was my comment. I got a email regarding my post being removed. Didn't dawn on my till I went there to look at it.

Wonder why they took it off? They rarely remove anything, and I am a known person by all of the people who operate that forum.

I sent a response back to Brett Hagstrom asking what I said that needed to be removed.

Dear Leo,

We appreciate your interest in WOODWEB
and your response to a recent post at our
Cabinetmaking Forum.

However, we have determined that the post
you responded to was inappropriate, according
to our guidelines, and it has been removed.
As a result, your response post was also removed.

Thank you for your participation at the WOODWEB Forums.

Man, they get their nose all out of joint because Pete mentions a joint and and it alludes to another type of joint than a cabinet joint so they kick him out of the joint. :hippy:

Got a response back from woodweb, nothing really to tell, but they usually don't respond. I specifically asked why it was removed. Lets see if they respond to that.

I'm just surprised that they actually responded to my request the first time. Usually they don't. I'm just wondering if it has anything to do with your website link.

Except they can be a real pain in the butt to use. They are thickness sensitive.

You get stuff from MLCS at all? I use to use them a lot but their bit quality has gone down quite a bit. I get profiles from them and the first thing I do is have them sharpened. The original grind on most of the suck, but the resharpened bits work fine. They are inexpensive and you get what you pay for. Mostly I get my 1/2" x 14º dovetail bits from them. At $7 plus $3 sharpening they are still half the price of a Whiteside bit from WoodCraft, and seem to do just as good a job.

My 45º is Freud, don't remember where
the 22½º is from, but I have stuff
from MLCS.
They are a pain sometimes,
that's why I have some set up blocks made....
