When fastening unfinished 3/4" hardwood flooring where exactly should the fastener contact the wood in regards to the tongue? Just above the tongue or right in the corner of the tongue?

I use a stapler, it generally places the staple just slightly out of the inside corner of the tongue itself and the plank.

It would seem to me if you shot on the corner of the tongue it could blow out and make the groove tough to fit.

the only time you have a choice is when you are hand nailing. If using a nailer that decision will be made for you.

I use a pneumatic floor stapler (or cleats), which as has already been said chooses your location for you. Once I can no longer get a good swing because I'm too close to the wall, I use my 16g finish nailer with a T&G tip which also chooses nail location. A little closer and I pre drill and switch to the palm nailer. After that I'm using tightbond II.

Not a flooring man by any means, but have done probably 8,000 -9,000 in the past 3 years without incident.
