Google announced this week that Facebook status updates will now be a part of real time searches.

It sucks to be you if you don't have your page set up properly though:

Apparently only updates from Facebook PAGES are indexed, and according to Danny Sullivan, that includes links, status updates, photos, videos shared by page owners (not comments made by the fans). Any Facebook update (from regular user profiles) can be shared publicly, so I wonder why these aren't being pulled. Results from Twitter and other places aren't only from branded sources.

Facebook surpasses Google for visits.

Really? I'm having great luck with it so far. Haven't sold a job yet, but I ve talked to more people about prospective projects there in the last 6 months than I have from any other format.

Nice to see a great group of my friends from all walks of life there as well...

Jason, I just don't like it that much. The whole thing is kinda a turn off for me. Nothing on anyone here, but until they lift some of the concreteness of it.. and it is more user friendly.. I won't like it as much.

I think you need to "connect" in Facebook for it to work. The whole deal with social media is that it is a two way communication.

Nate, I look at your Facebook biz page (your sig link no good btw) and see one entry since September. I know you heard me say this "over there", but I see this with a lot of people who say the same thing, so bear with me!:rolleyes3:

Facebook is not for everyone, you don't have to do it. But to be successful with it, like any other form of marketing or even a relationship, you have to nurture it and be consistent. You have to interact with other people, I see you are starting to on your personal page.

Look for local groups of business people and join and contribute.
Set up google alerts or look in the paper for news to post.

I just will not accept that defeatist attitude!

I think just having a facebook presence is great. I've got 100+ fans on my main page. I think it looks good to potential customers to see that.

And, it's free. So why not?

Since I want to specialize in Decks this year I started a page for my deck business:

I'm working on making it pretty nice, but just started.
