Lead paint: Delicious, but deadly

This is the first news I've heard of a municipality taking on education and verification of RRP compliance as part of permiting.

Thats a good way to get compliance right there.

Stewart said they have added a space in the application for building permits in which the date of construction of the property involved must be listed. If that date is before 1978, the city will advise the contractor of the new rule, which will require supervision by an EPA certified inspector, and that appropriate steps must be taken to prevent lead contamination.

======

Very Interesting I definitely think that's the way to go.. I also think you should be required to show your certiification to obtain the permit

EXACTLY!!

Did the author of this article take a hit from the bong before writing it? He seems to be trying to write poetry at the beginning.

Or the building departs should be able to look in a EPA database and confirm that the company pulling the permit is certified.

A few guys have told me that the document is not very official looking..

It would probably be very easy to duplicate or produce a fake certificate.. $300 bucks and you don't even get a raised seal on the damn thing:rolleyes3:

June bug and Ray Ray will be selling fake certifications 1 week before they rule takes place for $50 bucks.. :laugh3:

There are several villages around here talking about implementing this. It doesn't sound like it's going to be immediate but probably in a year or so.

My building department said flat out they are not enforcing it until the state gets involved.

As far as our local building official,the burden of enforcement lies solely on the EPA.
The state health Dept. feels the same .

Ray Ray sold me my contractor's license a while back. Much cheaper than renewing the real one. :grin:

He misspelled California though.

In my opinion, enforcing it and requiring a certificate for your permit are two different things. I don't think these villages want anything to do with the enforcement of the procedures, they will leave that in the EPA's hands.
