Apparently I forgot my phone # when I sent in my application. They cashed the check right away but if your app has a problem they don't contact you, you have to call a hot line for all general questions.

I might have my cert in 3 or 4 months unless I can get a call into the processing office.

The processing office doesn't have a phone number, you must call Hatamali Obcomono and ask him to try and contact the processing people, but they don't have a phone so its done by email between departments, only problem is the departmental emails need to go through a hub and the hub only works part of the time, but they have it on their agenda to fix the email program later this year.

God Bless America!

What? You forgot your phone number and have to wait "maybe 3 to 4 months"?!?!?!? I would be less than cordial in your shoes right now.

90 days to either approve, not allow, or ask for more information - if they need more info, they will then send you a letter in which you have 30 days to respond - how long it takes after this is anyones guess...

Sorry Paul - that sucks

Nice of them to cash the check right away though. Grrrr.....Maybe Chris will let you borrow his Hulk mask.

Ahh yes, the pitfalls of Gov't and no accountability.

Imagine if any of you tried to run a business like that.

'Sorry Mam, you forgot to put your phone number on the contract. We cashed your deposit check but we will be starting your project 3 months later than our initial agreement.'

Hmm, do I hear a blog Article (with names) on the broken process?

Let me see if I have this right. This is for the lead cert? When I spoke with someone around here about getting certified, I was told I would receive the cert the day I took the course...doesn't work like that where you are?

SCC - we are talking about the firm cert

Of course, I had a blast getting my regular CLR fixed because the morons screwed up my last name

Ok, can someone explain the difference here please?

CLR - Certified Lead Renovator (what you spend 8 hours in a class for - individual only)

CF - Certified Firm - a certificate required to do estimates or sell to pre78 "target housing" - basically you send in $300 to the EPA saying, hey I understand this & will use a CLR as required by the regulations (no class needed, etc...)

Even though you are a Sole Proprietor, you need both - one as a firm & one for the training

Make sense - sort of

your personally take the class for renovators and get certified, then your company has to be a certified firm where you send the application in and wait 3 months and they let you know if it has been accepted.

Sounds like they're so screwed up somebody they might promote a contractor to second lieutenant by accident.

Looks like SLS and me might finally get to be officers instead of enlisted men.

I just filled mine out and I'm printing the check as I type. I keep going over this with a fine tooth comb hoping I didn't miss anything!

I almost sent out a copy of the example form that I changed and had red writing on it until I caught the instructions at the top that said type responses in black or blue ink only!

LOL Got a letter that our form was incomplete due to the fact that we did not list an EPA reagion. I looked over the copy of the app that I sent in and noticed that there is no place to put in a Region. I then checked the app online to make sure that they hadn't changed the application.
Called the third party number that is listed on the letter and spoke to a very nice lady who pulled up my app, she also looked through the app and agreed with me that there is no place to fill in a region, and also agreed that since my business is in New Jersey, that we would be region II, and couldn't understand why we were sent the letter.
So now my app is in the hands of the internal e-mail machine. Will have to wait until Monday to give a call back.
I forgot how efficiently the EPA is run (used to work with a consulting engineering firm)

I am waiting to get my app back to fill in the phone number, then its back to the EPA, over 2 months to wait to get it back.

I had them on the phone and talking to them is other worldly, nice enough but you feel like they are from another planet.

Funny thing is, I got through and said they could just get my number and put it in, NADA, not how they do things.

There will be a few contractors working without that cert. About 200,000 of them.

Only about 20,000 contractors will be certified, (actually could be as little as 8,000).

And the EPA will probably wonder why the numbers are so low too. :rolleyes3:

Such confusion makes for a more target rich environment to catch and fine non-certified violators?

It will be interesting to see how many contractors are certified this time next year. I'm sure there will be published stories of the first contractors to take a bust and a fine too.

He already did, I'm certain of it. I got some sort of letter from the government just yesterday. Something about a census. I threw it away. :laugh3:

My guess is sooner or later we'll see a case where some jackleg has gotten wind of these lead handling requirements and has charged an HO big dough for abatement, but doesn't have a license or cert.
