Anyone have a source other than
SeaChrome for tub transfer seats
like these?

Uh, it's a fold up bathtub transfer seat... http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu61/neoliticman/smilieshifty.gif

That is the SeaChrome seat.

Although they want $100 more than
some of the others for it.

What are you transferring? It's just a seat for the elderly and handicapped?

That's what it is.
Moving from bed to chair,
from chair to tub, etc....
is called a "transfer."
A transfer bench allows sitting down
outside the tub and swinging the
legs into the tub for people who
can't step into the tub safely. :)

Sorry, Neo. I thought SeaChrome sold those but for some reason you wanted another source for those seats. I couldn't tell from your post that you wanted another brand of seat. :surrender:

Yeah, SeaChrome is the only one
I can find.
Just thought there would be other choices.

Thanks, but I need one that hinges
off the end wall like the pic.
I've been through about 30 Google pages
and have to believe I'm missing the
secret handshake. :laugh4:
Hard to believe there is only one manufacturer
for that style.

Call Ferguson I have gotten a similar seat there. I don't remember if it was seachrome or not but they were teak and stainless and very nice.

Just a comment about units of any type that hinge off a wall in a shower or tub. We installed a fold up bench in a shower the correct way. Blocking behind the wall and so on. The escutcheons that ring the mounting tubes were sealed and all was right with the world. Unfortunately, the mounting tubes were hollow and allowed water to easily reach the tile wall. The added stress on the wall of a person sitting on the seat as well as 1/16" grout lines allowed the grout to crack, water from the hand sprayer to enter, and the tile application to fail. Water then followed the screws into the blocking and since one had split the wood, we had a leak downstairs. Found out the tile installer had used the pre-mixed HD crap rather than thin set and it emulsified.

Took almost 9 months to fail but we removed the bench and corrected the problems. I will never attach ANYTHING to a shower wall like that again. :censored:

Just trying to find a little competition.
There is plenty of variety in practically
every style save this one.

Gonna try them again this week, but
their operation here is kind of strange.

I have one out there worrying me like that.
Watched him mix the thinset for the floor,
wasn't there all day when he did the surround.
A week later hauling the trash, one of the bags
ripped open and I saw scraps of wall tile with
that white crap.
It still wasn't fully set....

This style only attaches to the wall
in order to swing up.
The weight is borne by the tub itself.
The hinges appear to be solid stainless,
so less chance for penetration.

Thanks, but all of theirs except maybe
the "custom" are strictly wall hung
and require massive blocking, like
the one Mike was using.
This type just depends on the wall to
keep it from moving around and for
fold up storage.
