I am stripping this door. These kinds of doors are hard enough to find, I am not too picky on the wood species.

This door is begging me to stain it but, I don't want to spend hours sanding the edges of the panel and styles.

What would you guys do?
It will be my basement door.

I might be inclined to take a scraper to the inside corners first, but other than that, I would go ahead and stain it.:2thumbsup:

ps: my inclinations are the reason I have so many unfinished projects at my house that are "nearly done". Stain it and swing it!:mad2:

I kinda like it.
Now when building new everyone wants the distressed look on their cabinets, you will be stylish.

I can get the corners really well with my dx93 detail sander.
It's those square shoulders that are the pain in the arse.

You don't want to use a chemical stripper?

Strip it/Scrape it/Sand it.

Doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd get the paint out of those corners.

Beautiful doors, BTW.

Let the green tools have their way
with it, and shellac it....

I did on the side that had 8 layers of paint.
The other side was stained and varnished.

Strip it/Scrape it/Sand it.

I don't aim for perfection but, I was considering painting the door after I was done stripping it, I know it seems odd. I don't like putting another coat of paint.

Let the green tools have their way
with it, and shellac it....

Thank you sense.

Wax-on, wax-off!:laugh3:

This, what he said.

It will have that distressed look and the shellac will bring out the highlights of the old wood.

Why bother? Its obviously saturated with LEAD and you'll be dead before the paint drys.

Don't be lazy. Your 3/4 of the way there. It is not that bad. Slap some stripper on it. scrape it with your 5 in 1, apply another coat of stripper and scrub with a tooth brush. I prefer a fine steel wool but I can't see the cut of the trim in the pics.

I stripped most of my kitchen including two small 6 pane windows of seven layers of paint. Since then all other stripping jobs seem like a piece of cake.

I'm with the others, clear coat that baby and let the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself.

I know. Not many people can relate to the amount of work/time it takes to strip all the layers of finish off things.

Do it while you can. Your IQ won't be worth a damn in a few days from the lead.

Doomed, I say. Doomed.

Save the paint chips for your coffee. I hear it makes a great sweetener.

Be sure to offer the EPA inspector a nice hot cup of sweetened Joe too.
