I need to duplicate a stipple ceiling like in the attached picture. It looks like they did it by spreading mud over the sheetrock first and then using a brush? What kind of brush?

Whats the steps?

Oddly enough, with a stippling brush,
or a crows foot brush....

Grab piece of sheetrock and experiment until you have the right consistency. I can't remember if you dip the brush in mud and then apply it or spread mud on the ceiling and stomp it.

I always rolled,
then stomped.

.....but that's how I roll....

Roll and go. But if it's just a patch then it's a dip and stomp. Getting the texture to match will be your biggest challange. The texture will take differently to a primed surface or open drywall. The best thing to do is like was suggested and practice on a sheet of drywall. But let it dry completely!!! It's amazing how much your mixture will "suck up" and change when completely dry.

How long you been remodeling?

My mothers washing machine sprung a leak and soaked the ceiling below, have a 4x8 area to retexture.

How long have I been remodeling? I am not a contractor but I have worked in the field of remodeling for 5 years. I can only think of one instance where we had to texture a ceiling, most of the time people want plain flat ceilings. Ive honestly never had to texture a ceiling.

I forgot where I was, sorry. :surrender:

So is there new drywall up, taped and sanded ready to go?

If so I'll look for your post and try to walk you through how we do it.
