Have you guys been following this. Will this make you consider buying a new vehicle??

If I had a clunker, I would look into getting a new truck.

Unfortunately, I don't have one, and I haven't figured out a loophole.

However, I have mixed feelings about my tax dollars being spent on this when there are seemingly so many more important issues in our country.

My van is too old to trade in, and I dont have a steady enough flow of work to risk another payment at this point.

I need income right now. Not debt.

No. I want a pretty white f-150 duel cab with my logo on the side and rear. I'm sure that is not included in the gov't program. Even if I had the cash to spend at this time, I do not want the gov't involved in my purchases or anything else I do with my life.

Be honest, its the full coverage insurance with 4 DUI's that you cant handle.

Never had a DUI, and I only drink at home these days so I am cool on that.
I wouldnt buy anything too nice to paint out of anyway. It would be nice to have a smaller car dedicated to giving estimates, but once the paper work is signed I will bust out the old ford and piss oil all over the driveway

Just bought an old 91 E150 with straight 6, automatic. Cant wait to get it outfitted. Drives smooth and its like a storage building.

I have a 77 E150 right now, I had a newer Dodge van that threw a rod, so I was gonna use my ranger, but the rear leafspring shackles both rusted through, which caused one of the leafsprings to twist and snap at the end. So I was screwed, no money , no work vehicle. I found this Van, traded the busted ranger and $100 for it.
I almost went and bought a Dodge van off of Craigslist yesterday, but the wife talked me out of it. I do like the old Ford, I just wish she was white and not green.

You should talk to me before you buy vehicles, I was a mechanic until '88. All older Dodges are bad a lot of the newer too, Rangers are money pits. In older stuff there is only certain stuff that hangs. Even amoung names you have stuff to watch out for, your E150 might have a 351w, famous for blown head gaskets and cracked heads. Check with me before you buy older stuff.

it is a 351 Windsor, so far it runs great. I put all new brakes on it and a new seal on the rear axle, it was leaking and mixing with the brake dust and causing the brakes to bind on that side. The exhaust looks great, the AC unit is missing, but she runs better then my Dodge did. It is funny because now when ever I pass other vans I look for round headlights trying to see if any of them are near the age of mine. So far I have seen only one, it is pretty cool with the 70's style mural on it, I thought about following it and asking the owner to sell it to me. Then I could hide my wifes Montana and tell her I traded it in on a shaggin' wagon.

Those are ok motors if they are never run hot. If you dont know the last time the thermostat was changed, have it changed or change it yourself. Trust me. Run that engine hot once and its cracked head or blown head gasket. $5 part that can ruin your engine.

I just wish she was white and not green.

Captain Kirk said that very same thing once in a Star Trek episode where he was scheming up some alien skirt.

Back to the original question, the cash for clunkers program would not work for most contractors. From what I understand you have to purchase a higher mileage vehicle to get the $4500.00 dollar deal. And as stated earlier, I don't want the government having anything to do with me or my business that I don't have to.
There is probably some clause hidden in it somewhere that says you would have to report all your activities in that vehicle to the white house.Lol
