Hey all,
I have a job coming up soon (signed and sealed). It's about a 120yr old church with domed ceilings that are 30' in the center. This job involves repairing the original lath and plaster from a roof leak. The kicker is that they had someone texture the entire ceiling in the 80s, so that's got to go. The ceilings will be returned to flat.

Actually, I'm good to go on the plaster repair, but I recall reading somewhere that someone had a solution for scaffolds or lifts that were designed for clearing church pews. I know I saw it somewhere, but I can't find it now. I want to get a lift in there w/o moving the xxxlb oak pews that are probably the same age as the building itself.

I've got a sizable cushion in budget for this, so price is not necessarily an object, within reason. Sorry no pics, but I figure churches are churches, and have the same type layout of the pews. The floor is flat, BTW.

*I have a "worst case scenario" solution, which is what I priced for, but I swear I read somewhere about an attachment for a scissor lift that would straddle the pews. Since I work alone, anything not requiring moving companies, storage units, etc would be much better .

You know, this just hit me...Do I need EPA cert to do this job? I never thought of it when I bid it, about 7 mos or so ago...It's not a residence, though. What say you?

I am too looking at a church to repaint and I will be figuering in scaffolding because its not economical to tear down staging , and I cannot get a scissor lift in through the doors not too mention my church is about 40 plus to top of domed ceiling.Sides of main church i will be tearing out pews while I do the sides for my staging. Good luck

PWG/Thread Killer had a couple
of threads at CT.

I have used "sidewalk frames"
in similar situations, but they aren't
all that mobile.

Has anyone used a Baker's style scaffold on sloped floors? How did it work out? Was it hard for one person to move across the slope (I need to go 3 high)?

I figured I'd stick to this existing thread, rather than start anew. As an aside, I found the scissor lift attachment to straddle pews: Genie Super Straddle (http://genielift.com/ss-series/ss-1-2.asp) Very useful, I must say. Unfortunately, it is not the best option for my current scenario.

I might be going in left field here but how large is this area you are doing, how long will it take & does the church still need the room if longer than a week - requiring tear down & setup's?

The reason I ask - can you build a temporary structure that goes over all the pews high enough for the church to be used, allowing for rolling scaffolding and containment?

The open area is approximately 60' x 40'. They will be relocating services during construction. This is the same church as before, but with additional added scope. I will be addressing areas on the ceiling, that are for the most part near the exterior walls. I'd love to build some sort of platform structure, but I work alone, and I can't really justify moving the congregation for a long period of time if I can just use the scaffold in a safe manner.

edit: There exist a few areas in the middle of the ceiling as well, but not as bad as the edges.

Sidewalk scaffolds, walking boards (and plywood?) in between sets
