Interesting Blog from a Utah couple building their own Straw Bale home. They even went to a timber school and learned how to make their own trusses.

There's a fair amount of that going on in Arizona too.

Cool story, and one way to get yourself a smart home.

Here's a GC in Prescott AZ that specializes in straw bale construction.
Apparently cheap and energy efficient.

I know, I am so frustrated, I changed from Godaddy to Hostgator on Thursday, they say the DNS is still "propogating":censored:
The worse part is my main email addy is tied to that domain, have not been able to fetch emails, and I have several bids out and large jobs in progress!
I switched over another site last month and it took less than 24 hours and was no problem!:censored:

Thanks Bodger, it is a pretty neat concept! The blog was neat because of the couple and the way they were recording the progress of their build.

I've known a couple people around here who have done it. Very cool... simple to build, great r value, very fire resistant, but only cheap if you build it with free labor.
There was a short article in Fine Homebuilding a while back about a guy who built one with bales of recycled paper.

There's a guy living in a cardboard box in my neighborhood. Maybe that sumbitch is on to something.

The r value is amazing on these things. I have always wanted to try building one of these, then try a rammed earth wall house next.
