Jason, welcome to our little slice of the funny farm. Since I can't demand food from newbies anymore, I won't bore you with stories of elk steaks, bacon, ribs, bacon, sushi, bacon, the 'what's for dinner' thread, bacon, and I certainly won't mention bacon.
Oh, the days when we ate well.

Hey, I thought it was a tie, so tradition wins. Just think Jason could bring crab, brook trout, salmon , and some of those musrooms from the coast range.
Your missing a lot Jason. Go to the food thread and break the tie.

Welcome to RC Jason. (Bacon) They didn't ban asking for grog yet. (bacon) So if you don't mind, could you bring a little (bacon) beer to yer initiation? (bacon) Bacon flavored is fine, or what ever you got. (bacon)

As a former resident of Portland, I can assure you that they are gastronomically sophisticated when it comes to Porcine cuisine.
One of my favorite places was Voodoo donuts.
Home of the famous bacon topped maple bar.

I have yet to go to VooDoo donuts... For some reason I suspect a curse upon me if I ate food from there, errr... I mean a donut. The curse of obesity. Oh my!

I've settled down with roasted garlic hummus and savory thin mini crackers (rice).

Hey Jason and Livinthedream,
There used to be a lumber yard in Portland that held a yearly belt sander race. (I think it might have been Parr Lumber)
Do you know if that is still happening?
One of the funniest damn things I've ever seen.
I knew guys who would spend the whole year trying to turbocharge their sanders for that race.

That would have been a hoot to watch! I have never heard of it. I wonder too if it is still happening and what lumber yard it was... I bet I know someone who might know... he's on fb. I'll see what I can find out.

afkama, here is the response of my friend (He used to manage at BMC West):
My question:
Matt, in your time with BMC West were you ever aware of a lumber yard company that held yearly belt sanding races? If so, who was it and would you know if they still do that?
His Answer:
Yep, sure do. I did them at Alpine lumber in Post Falls, ID. Loads of fun. Most guys customized a sander for the competition. A runway and some extension cords is about all you need. The runways need curbs 4-5" tall.
Post Falls ID is East of Spokane Wash, just across the Idaho Border.

Thanks Jason.
There was a place in Portland that had them too. I just can't remember who it was. It might have even been a tool outlet or something.
It was a riot and a lot of people showed up for them.
Again, man, Welcome to RC. It's good to have you here.

I am not doubting you within my friend's response, considering the lumber supplier he was with was west of Portland in the Beaverton area. So, to go all the way to Post Falls, ID makes it quite an event. :) And in the managing position, I am sure he was able to entertain things a bit more.
I am sure Portland had a similar event, but I am not sure where that could have been. I had hoped that Matt was familiar with the Portland event considering he was in town, but apparently he entertained a different one.

I see a couple members here (no one who has responded to this topic) that will limit my ability to be transparent (my choice). I'm not so sure this is the place for me yet. Still looking around... I love to be social and tend to tell what I know, but it's apparent on another forum that I have not reached the level of expertise as a few others and their perspective of me is not what I want to read about every time I log into a forum. So, I'll be a bit more hesitant to share.
Thanks for the welcome. :)

I wouldn't worry about that. The attitudes that you are referring to on the other forums are not well recieved here.
This is a group of contractors of all different sizes and all different stages of experience. All willing to share what they know.
Anyone with an attitude or without a sense of humor is going to last all of five minutes here.

Yeah, don't worry about it too much Jason. This is a pretty tight group and a sense of fairness abounds.
You can ask a question here without having to endure the first three answers telling you that if you were any kind of contractor you wouldn't have to ask, and all that posturing crap that goes on in other forums.

Thank you for bringing those, but they were gone before I got any. There's still some hummus left, but no crackers. Seems the RC gang didn't appreciate the hummus as much. I brought these grilled sweet potato wedges which will be great with the hummus.

Oh hell no Jason. We just have fun here and have a few trade articles to discuss. 95% of it is about music and wasp stings. I don't even know what GPM is and I'm the fourth busiest poster.
One thing about this place is that you don't have to worry about getting blown up and piled on. They reserve all of that for me, but they know I welcome that.
