I'm trying to figure out what wire
and from where, for a U-Verse TV
add on.
They want a TV room on the second floor
and I don't know if the wire (CAT-5 ?)
comes from the phone entrance box,
or the modem/gizmo-doodle that the
current TV is hooked up to.
Anyone know?

Looks like the signal comes from a U-Verse Gateway (router). From the sound of it you just need to run the cable (cat-5 or above , 5E or 6) from the Gateway to the U-Verse receiver.

The only words that I understand in that sentance are "looks", "sound", and "you". :laugh3:

Thanks, I'll have to take a closer look.
They have computers in two other rooms
and they have some kind of box too
(I think.)
Would it likely be the one closest
to the phone entrance terminal?
Is the main "router" different than
the others in some identifiable way?
I can only find pix of one so far.

All I know about CAT 5 is that
Kiddo always has many reels of it
in his work van, and it is usually blue.
Therefore this is likely a dumb question.
Would 6 pair phone wire (MaBell's best)
qualify as "Cat 5 or above"?
I gots beau coup 6 pair.

Cat 5 refers to the number of twists per inch in a cable to reduce cross talk or interference between pairs of conductors.
Check the cable that is blue it should be marked at least once every foot if it is cat 5 or 6.

Aaah, MaBell's old 6 pair
doesn't do the twist.
I'll just buy 100' then.

6 pair unjacketed?
That's cross connect wire from the old school. I think I still have part of a roll around here somewhere.

Does 1980 count as old school?
This was when Bell sent their guy
to pre-wire houses on the rough-in.
Guy left 1000' spool, I've been working it
ever since.
