Have a message pop up to remind guests to join

when a guest comes to the forum, have a pop up or some sort of message on the page that reminds them to sign in or join. I have noticed more guests then users... Thought this may help

We don't do this already? Other sites you have to click that stuff out of the way to proceed. I think its a no brainer. Good suggestion A-B.

We thought it was intrusive and never put one up. We figured people would join when they are ready or something interest them..

Forums are like that, hell CT has 200 members logged in and 1K guest on some nights

Good idea, I am good either way and we did discuss it when we started and decided it was pushy at that time.

If they want to join they will. Last thing you really need a bunch of 1 post wonders that never show up again. Waste of space.

I look through the member list on CT and you should see all the people who signed up and have zero posts.

It's the nature of forums to have more guests than members, this is normal.

They find a link from a search, find the info they were looking for and move on.

There is a message a the home page (if you're not logged in), you will also see a message if you try to post, reply, view an image etc.

We also used to run a banner ad that would show after the first post in a thread encouraging registration, but that is not currently active.

We try to keep encouraging sign-ups and keeping the registration as simple as possible, but it really just comes down to quality content.
