View Full Version : Paslode driving me crazy

Hey gang,
My Paslode finish nailer is driving me nuts. All of a sudden, for no apparant reason, it will just stop firing nails in the middle of a job. It will release the gas, but not fire. This happens suddenly and without warning. If I pack it up and take it out a day or more later, it may or may not work fine again.
I've got a fresh gas cartridge, fully charged battery, cleaned & oiled per instructions, and more than enough nails loaded to prevent lockout.
I'm about ready to throw this thing across the room and fire up the compressor. :surrender:

I had the original Paslode framing gun. It did the exact same thing after about an hour's use. Sent it back to Paslode, got it back, same malfunction.
In fact I wrote a review of it on Amazon and called it a $400 paperweight.
I sold it on e-bay, and got about $150 for it because I described the troubles it gave me.
I haven't bought airless Paslode since.

6 years going with a Paslode finish nailer, never a problem.
And thats the problem, I KEEP THINKING ITS GONNA BREAK!
My framer, I can clean that in the dark in 5 minutes.
Give me 2 of em and I'll hunt Grizzly.

The only trouble I have had with Impulse guns was with the 16 ga. straight nailer. It had a habit of shooting two nails and jamming. I pulled the piston and filed the backside of the drive pin on a slight bevel so it wouldn't grab the second nail and it has been trouble free since. My angled trimmer and 3 framers have given me zero trouble except when they need a good cleaning, about twice a year.

Mine had a pinched wire right under the top cover. It was arcing out.
Only way I noticed it was by playing with it in the dark, the finish nailer.

I completely rebuilt my framer, works like new. But since I'm not a framer it get occasional use, like building a wall or setting a beam.
It's been a good tool.
I still like compressors for trim.
I set up 2 compressors with 3 or 4 guns so I don't have to change them out.
We all got our best practices.
One more thing, It took a couple years, but I learned not to overnail.
The painters taught me that.

The paslode trim gun we have does the same thing. If you pull the battery out and shove it back in you get one shot. Junk. I will keep my compressor.

I have 3, the framer, 16ga. angle, and 18ga brad gun. Now that I think about it I've never cleaned the trim guns and they're more than 2 years old. They fire with no problems, I'm thinking I'm one of the lucky ones.

I always seem to get the defective ones.
I have a Paslode positive placement gun for setting A-35's and joist hangers and MSTA straps, etc.
THAT is a tool I would not trade for anything. No jamming, easy to field strip, and you can use two different sizes of joist hanger type nails. Beauty of a gun.

I won't use anything without a compressor. Had the framing gun and straight finish nailer stolen off of a job and actually probably came out a head. As far as I am concerned there are no other framing nailers in existence besides a duofast CN325B. Toughest framing nailer ever invented. If you knew my crew, they would turn a modern day lightweight titanium nailer into pieces in minutes. Easiest gun to rebuilt as well.

Other than a pinched wire I have had no issues.
I have yet to clean either my framer or me finish nailer.
