I generally like Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Hirchfields (a local company), BM and HF are sold from my account at the HF store.
So my money goes to a local business.
I like Sherwin Williams a lot.
I also have an account at Diamond Vogel, very good paint made in Minnesota.
Also Valspar is made here in Minneapolis and sold at a good price. Nice looking colors in my opinion.
Anyone used Valspar and if so what do you think?

Only used it once.
Changed a door right after HO painted
his trim with it.
He had a gallon left so I did the jambs
and brickmold with it (SW on the door though.)
Seems to be okay after 4 years.

Used it several years ago.
Now I use SW or Dutch Standard, local shop downtown.

I have used it. It is not where I buy my paint but every now and again I do a job where they have already purchased the paint, usually from HD or Lowes.
Just like all paints it is broke down into a line of paint. they have some good lines and they have some cheap crap contractor grades.
Personally when buying paint you should spend your money in a paint store where you will be more likely to get good advice about the products uses and limitations. The guy at lowes may know something but next time you go in he might not be there and the other guy probably won't know jack. Also a paint store knows how to eye paint colors where the lowes guy will only know what the computer tells him.

I am severely paint challenged. If i see a can and brush I run and hide under the bed in a fetal position. The only thing I can do however is apply shellac.

I don't buy big box paints, when I did fire water restoration I opened my SW account.
I painted for over 2 years with a New England Restoration company and we used B Moore only.
Valspar has their factory here and its painted very nicely, good advertisement as you drive by this huge building with a ton of colors.
I am used to Sherwin Williams and my entire interior is SW, great reds, brown and latex enamel for all my millwork. Its what I bring out to customers when they are looking at paint.
Painted the exterior myself 2 years ago with Pittsburg Paints, that went on really nice. All done with a 4" brush, over 8" Redwood drop siding Pewter and
off white soffet and fascia 4' overhangs.
It was only $20 a gallon so I went for it. In reality I probably saved $200, when you consider paint is almost all labor it seems dumb to buy cheep paint.

I didn't care for the coverage I got from Valspar products.
I require the service I receive from my paint supplier that you will never receive from a box store

Really Dusty,
Not being a painter but answering the paint questions all the time I usually say Sherwin Williams and never worry about it.
I did look into Muralo for one job, about $60 a gallon.

Valspar here in Chicago is a big box paint sold at Lowes... Never used it. They did buy Cabot few years back and have been tweaking there formulas IMO and not for the better.
But we stay away from Big Box mostly cuz of service at the paint counter.
I still use small mom and pop shops which gives me BM and Cabot and Muralo which usually covers all my bases.

I don't use much Valspar, as I have to drive past Hirshfields and 2 SW's to get to the Valspar store. I do use Cabot on decks, which is owned by Valspar now. I use Hirshfields Platinum almost exclusively--no other paint that I've used looks as nice on the wall or holds up as well.

We'll use SW for almost anything we need to. interior/exterior, and decks.
However, we don't do a lot of paint work, since we are residential remodelers (not painters). However, we occasionally have to paint something as part of a larger project, and SW is nice name recognition, goes on well, and we have a local account.
