We know your out there. This is for you, its an open forum meaning anyone can visit, but you will be able to moderate.
You are welcome in Thunderdome as a building professional.
We hope to make it all one forum, but for now lets try this social experiment.
Please send comments and suggestions and lets work together to promote professional building.

Hmm, never heard of a female remodeler, new construction yes. It'll be interesting to see if there is such a creature. Oh is this thread for females only? Oops

I don't know about that, but they will be professionals in our industry. None may show up, its up to the women.
The offer is out there, what anyone does with it is up to them.
I would guess if a woman has made it to pro status she can handle herself just fine.
I started doing interviews of trade professionals a couple months ago, yesterday I interviewed a mother/ daughter team that sells appliances to contractors and their customers. Smart, capable and good customer service. They have a "The buck stops here" process and they are the only people I send my customers to. It had nothing to do with gender and everything to do with them making me look good.
For what its worth.

I would really like to see the women get involved in the forum. I know its hard to be a female in the business. I would like to get their feedback on how the deal with it.
I wonder if its an asset. You would assume it would be but a lot of guys aren't to keen on women in the trades

A trim sub I worked for long ago trained his daughter to be a trim carpenter starting at around age 17-18. She became pretty good, last time I saw her was with her sider boyfriend with whom she was working with, he was verbally abusive to her to say the least, kind of sad. That sounds kind of downer, didnt mean it like that. Anyway she could hold her own in fields that werent physically demanding like framing.

Agreed.
Lots of talented women, seen a few, wonder if harassment laws make contractors leery about giving them a chance, giving the average contractor the benefit of the doubt about thinking that deep..
If some don't show up soon, it'll be a few middle-age guys hangin out.. where??

We have a ton of women that work for us. We have 2 in the field and believe me they kick ass.
The one thing that sets them apart from us guys is that darn paperwork! This is where they make us look bad. But I love it!!
We have 4 sales gals and again the paper work is always perfect. Oh plus they can sell!

If you are concerned about your career, you’ll be more concerned with looking professional than looking cute or trendy. Color plays a big part in professional image. Traditional career colors include red (aggressive), navy (trustworthy), gray (conservative) and black (chic).

Welcome, Milliemegan. You should wander over to the red door and go into the Introductions area and tell us a bit about yourself. We don't kick anyone out for wearing pink, but you'd better have a thick skin to hang around here. Lot's of good information, interesting talk, and great fun, but you are at risk for some serious attention you may not expect. Not many contractors are interested in whether their tool pouch is any color other than dirt.
Wives and gf's colors don't particularly interest them so you should expect thread drift at some point. I'm just saying....:grin:;)

A woman in the business and a woman in the trades is 2 different things. Which are you looking for and will you accept both?
I think you/we would be wise to recruit women in the business. Two that come to mind as examples are Kitchen Sync and Google Girl.

I agree with women in the business
they have been somo of the best sales people and designers I have come across.
There was far less bravado, macho, building monuments BS than with men.

I'm meeting with a Granite Countertop surface group when I'm back from vacay. They are younger and hotter than I am. Might you be interested in having them on board?
