This one is for the geeks out there.:surrender:

I can't decide if I want to go with the 6 core AMD or the Intel i7 6 core. There's a huge price difference but I can afford either,

ok, what would you grab? like I said I can afford either but I think the Intel is for the guys that only care about the "benchmark" numbers. I can't see there being a 700 dollar difference in speed, unless I'm missing something.
Am I over thinking this?

Also is anyone running 3d? What about SSD's, so many questions.

Are you using it for CGI? I just grab the cheapest one walmart has when ever I need one.

If you want the absolute best performance, then it's Intel all the way these days.

But for the difference in price, the AMD will work well and you could stick the money into better video cards, power supply or monitor.

Here are a couple decent article comparing the two.

Good choice on the boards - I only use Asus in my own machines and when I built computers for clients I also only used Asus. I only had one warranty repair out of all the systems I built using Asus boards. Also the overall throughput on the board themselves are usually higher than other manufacturers.

The SSD will make your projects that need HD access fly.

I would still get a standard HD, 1 or 2 TBs

I'm not building it, but I'm having one made to my specs.

Hopefully done next week.

I have 2-2tb and 2-1tb drives going in it also Leo, I'm just transferring them out of my existing machine until I can get my hands on a 4 drive NAS box or set up a home server.

Hopefully done next week.

What kind of hardware did you pick?
