For those of you that have someone else do your SEO work what kind of rates do you pay per month.

My search engine rankings have fallen off the map so I need someone to do it for me. My competition is keeping up with the times & I'm not so it's time to play catch up.

You usually have 2 options..

A flat upfront fee which can range anywhere really. 1-4k?

Or a monthly fee. 150-200 per month and includes maintenance and updating of the site.

Which methods appeal to you? are you hands on? or do you need some one to update the site for you?

Yep buck and a half for good seo.

What I want is someone that can handle a smorgasbord of social contenting and ppc for me. Is there such a service available yet?

My webguy wants 350 per month, says he'll have my site on the first page of google. Seemed a bit steep. His price for building the site was pretty fair. The boss at my supplier thought 350 was a fair price.

I'd like to use someone local, but maybe that's not needed. Any recommendations on who to use if I don't use someone local. Len do that sort of thing?

SEO pricing is all over the place.

It's like many other things in that what exactly will you be getting for the money.

On page one? For what terms and how? Do they guarantee this? (generally they should NOT)
What experience/training does the SEO company/person have?
Can they give you data on previous client results?
On page SEO - Off page SEO (backlins etc.) or both?
Do they follow Google guidelines, do they employ blackhat or greyhat techniques?
Are they doing it locally, or are they subbing it out to India?

"The terms I want."
Terms need to be researched. What people are actually searching (not making assumptions) and what terms can you realistically rank for over your competition.

In a recent contractor SEO project I was reminded of this lesson.
The contractor provided me with a list of terms they wanted to rank for.
They looked pretty good to me. I researched the terms, including one him and I both assumed would be a primary keyword used in the site.

The research listed another term, with the same meaning that has 2x the amount of monthly searches, and less competition, over the term we assumed everyone would use in a search.

If we had went with our assumptions the site would have missed that opportunity to double it's exposure.

If you found a company/person who could provide this service, you would probably just mock them anyway. :mad2:

For how many keywords? How competitive? Would they convert into leads? SEO companies trade hours for cash. When I hear $100-300 a month I start to worry if you truly will see results for that little time.

Local searches on keywords of my choice.

Listen to your clients but dont take advice from them when it comes to your expertise. A good SEO company will do a competitive analysis of your industry and lay out a plan to accomplish your goals. What keywords they optimize around should not start with the client. It should start with the experts - your SEO company.
