Gmail and Google Apps
Can you combine these 2 accounts?

(Legend:
GM = Gmail
GV = Google Voice
GA = Google Apps)

I've had a GM account which contains all of my business contacts. GV integrates nicely. Now I'd like to start using GA for the business. I looked and don't see a way to import my GM contacts to the GA account?

Are they really separate? What's the point of having all things Google if they don't integrate? I can log in to the GA account direct from within GM but that's where the marriage seems to end.

I wouldn't honestly care if the two had to be separate but I need the capabilities of both on my phone; which I cannot do now. I can only have 1 calendar. That's fine as I can create sub-calendars to keep things organized but I cannot have 2 totally separate calendars running. However, I don't see a feasible way to use a personal Gmail account and a business Google Apps together.

Am I missing something?

I'm not familiar with the GA ( the paid business version, I use the personal ones), but I have multiple personal gmail accounts and use multiple sign in to have 3 accounts in one window. If you just want the contacts why can't you export them from one and import to the other. Or maybe I don't understand what you are trying to do?!

Thanks to Rory for posting my question. I'm having trouble using FF to post. I get an error message saying my post must contain at least 10 characters. As you can see, the post has a lot more than that.

Anyway, I'm trying to have 1 Google "account".

I started using a Google account, or Gmail a few years ago. When I got an Android phone it made things real nice. I understand about having multiple calendars and sharing, etc. That's not the problem.

The issue is I have all of my contacts, whether personal or business tied to my Gmail account. I also have a Google Apps account for my business. I have spent the past few months "tweaking" it to just what I want. However, trying to keep both accounts synced is the problem. Sure, I could export/import contacts but I cannot control both of those from my phone.

Seems silly that I can't integrate them.

Epic with 2.1
I don't think so. Retrieving email and adding a completely new account are 2 different things.

I attempted and all that happened was I (inadvertently) deleted my business email account. The address is the same as my Google Apps log in.

I cannot believe this is so hard or impossible. I also can't believe no one else is attempting to do this.

I just use my email accounts and don't really keep track of contacts outside of my phone...

edit: no I do have both accounts on my phone.. in contacts, too

I have a nexus one with 2.2

Menu is the button with 4 horizontal lines.

Another way to get there is while on the home screen:
Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync

I believe that's just an email account. If it were truly a completely different account, you would have contacts and possibly a calendar attached to it.

when I add a new contact it asks me which account I want to add it under, and that is one of the choices.

for calendar... I have one calendar app on my phone, but I can connect them through google.

Go to you calendar settings in google (do this through your computer) and click on "sharing" option to add your other account

Angus the quickest way to do this is go into your Gmail account and export the contacts as a Google CSV file..

After you have done that, log into your Google apps account and import the same CSV file.

After the contacts are in your Google apps account, you have to go into the account on your phone and tell it to sync the contacts to your phone with in the account.

It takes about 10 minutes.. I can give you a call this afternoon, early evening if that will help. I got tied up all day yesterday on a bathroom

I don't know what the issue is. I cannot add my Google Apps account to my phone. What version of Android are you running?

Angus, if it makes you feel any better, I don't know what the f*ck any of you are talking about but I did just get my droid yesterday so I have a lot of tinkering to do. Once you figure it out, I'll buy you lunch and you can set it up on my phone too. :grin:

Yes there is a work around that syncs the email, but nothing else seems to work.

Contacts, calendars etc. do not sync.. Waiting for a reply back from my Sprint rep..

Could you ask when 2.2 will (finally) be available? And the day it's released, it will be outdated. So when will 2.3 be available? :rolleyes3:

I'll be damned. The youtube trick worked.

For anyone with this issue, open your youtube app, log out of your current account, log back in with your App account and viola!

Thanks to Len and Rory for taking the time to brainstorm this.
