What estimating software does everyone like? I need a recommendation.

Preferably with some job management features as well, but nothing too complicated.

Roger that. Thanks.

Elms is the easiest of the two. After you look at them tell me what you like and dont like and I will give you some more.

Both have free trials.

The Elms site was not working properly, I'll re-visit it later.

And yeah, bid 4 build seemed a bit more than I need.

Elms is rolling out a web based version so they were updating the site.

I am planning to hold a webinar over a few weeks on 3-4 different programs I have been testing.

Those two were the best of what I have seen so far

We have been preparing for our rollout of our new Web application call ELMS Advantage. Part of this rollout is the update of the website to support the new application I understand they where working on it this weekend.

We are going to continue to offer both ELMS Personal Edition for the desktop and ELMS Advantage for the web. We have seperate resources for each product. Our primary development is done on ELMS Advantage and we are looking at going to Beta test October 1st of this year. Remodelers interested in the beta program can contact me directly.

ELMS Personal Edition for the desktop is available free for 30 days - full functionality and no credit card required. Download (http://www.elmssoftware.com/elmspe/download.aspx) the software from the website and use the 30 day trial license key - E0663-8C061-DBCDC-275A0-C0BC0-08614E00E

Please contact me any time if you have any questions or need assistance..

I use Computool for everything. I think for Bodger Elms would be a better fit. He is more of a one man show and the price point is with in reason for what he does.

I demoed Elms and its a good product. I hope to get a chance to demo the advantage/web version

Gotcha, thanks for the quick info. I'd think a review of several of the available products could be very worth while. A year ago I would have paid for such info as we were making our decision. When you figure out the implementation costs (in our case much more than the program costs)... any review and advice is HUGE.

I plan to do just that. I have 4 of them that I think are worthwhile that I will do reviews on soon.

It is not interface to outside data that helps me calculate what I charge, but it does allow me to enter my estimates, email it in a very professional format to my customers and then quickly convert to a job once approved. While there is no outside data that comes into the system, I do use templates in order to reuse estimate information for future estimates and then I just change quantities, costs, etc. to make new estimates in faster time.
