After a somewhat interesting roller coaster ride, Maryland became the first state to pass the International Green Construction Code and apply the same across the board to all construction projects. As previously noted here, Rhode Island adopted version one of the IGCC but only applied the code to public buildings.

The final version of the bill was somewhat stripped down. Initial draft proposals of the act included terms that allowed the IGCC to be used as an alternative compliance path to the LEED standard of the U.S. Green Building Council for public procurement construction. The final version of the act removed the public procurement language and simply adopted IGCC.

Maryland infringes on their citzens' rights more than just about any other state. They are right there with CA on this stuff. Some of it is no doubt good, but I'll bet it turns into a major PITA for contractors right quick.

And many elements of the "green" things have yet to be proven beneficial.
All you have to do is call it green and the lawmakers are all over it.
