View Full Version : My BIG Day!

Chris posted about doing a regrout earlier and I got to thinking. Here is something I posted on the Mike Rowe Works forum.

For many people there is the tipping point in your profession. White collar, blue collar, no collar. Its your BIG Day. And what the heck am I talking about.

About 15 years ago I was on my way to a job site, I was confident, relaxed and just generally "chillin like a villain". That's because it was my BIG Day, the day I realized I knew what I was doing.

Big days are not age related, experience helps but its much more than that. An impossible person doesn't have a big day, people that cut corners, people that don't accept responsibility, lazy people, these people and others don't have BIG Days, they have jobs they don't like or understand, they go through the motions, get a check and wait for the days end.

So does that mean I know everything, or don't make mistakes? I wish.

Perfect every time is not in my world. Give yourself a break and enjoy what you do.

I want everyone to have a BIG Day, I still remember mine and although it was not celebrated, it marked a place in my work life that let me know the payoff was much more important than a raise or title. It was the day that I accepted myself as a professional with no reservations.

To all who have had this experience, I salute you, to those who have not arrived, you will. Remember this, its not what others think that give you peace, its what you think that gives you peace.

Have a nice BIG Day!

In the school district i work for, they always have a theme for the new school year. Last year was "Make it Happen". I told many of my kids (130 K-6) every
morning "Make it a great day"!

Paul, that's the mark of a survivor.

When times are tough, it's that self-confidence and self-reliance that gets you through the day. When you've dealt with enough issues and overcome enough obstacles there comes a point when you realize you can overcome just about anything that comes down the road.

It's a belief in yourself that can't be taught, can't be bought, can't be given by anything other than hard won experience.

I agree 100% I posted something like that on CT. I don't care what happens and how bad it looks I can and I will solve the problems that arise.

And always finish the job, no matter how bleak the outlook on that goal may be at times. I've been mired in jobs that I thought just might take me under. But they never did. That's a great lesson to look back on too. When a job is difficult. There's always a day when the job is done.

That is so true! It's the tough, challenging times that separate the pro's from the newbies. We (the pro's) go through it all the time and we walk away with a job well done, no matter how hard it may get.:2thumbsup:

All in one classroom probably, the way things are these days. They also herd them through the metal detectors all at one time.
