WTF is going on. You recall I had a flatscreen go out of service and we had a poll on RC how to destroy it the funnest way? Well the 2nd one is down now. Neither one was more than 3 years old.
For the nerds:
First one was a Samsung LED
Second one was RCA LED
I am really worried about the one in the man cave now. Its the big momma. Well I guess its off to the Best Buy tonight. If I don't have one by Sunday when the mrs returns from her vacation I..........well lets just say it would be unpleasant.

You need to stop throwing hard stuff at the TV when it shows stuff you don't agree with. They last longer that way. Restrict the items thrown at the TV to popcorn and chips.
Full or even empty beer bottles and cans not good.

hard to tell man. power issue at your place? I don't know dude. Look the models up online and see if there are known problems with them. Luckily they are getting cheaper and I am sure you can pick one up for a decent price.
www.newegg.com it is memorial day so I am sure there will be a sale.

It should last more than three years. I would agree with nEighter on this one. Look into power issues. All power in your home fluctuates some, which is hard on these types of electronics. If you ever have flickering in your home, brown outs in your area etc. you definitely want to have a line conditioner on all your expensive electronics.
A power conditioner (also known as a line conditioner or power line conditioner) is a device intended to improve the quality of the power that is delivered to electrical load equipment.
...
An AC power conditioner is the typical power conditioner that provides "clean" AC power to sensitive electrical equipment. Usually this is used for home or office applications and has up to 10 or more receptacles or outlets and commonly provides surge protection as well as noise filtering.

I have 3 Vizio's that have lasted 5 years and going strong. For what you pay for them. When they go bad, you just buy another one and not even start a post about it..

I'll third the voltage. Also, did you mean to type lcd or led? LED lit lcd tv's last much longer then the old fluorescent lit. I'm willing to bet it's the backlight that went out on both of them (or the transformers feeding them). The fluorescent back lights last something like 20,000 hrs (typ) but the LED's last 50,000. Get yourself an LED LCD.

seriously though, electronics are sensitive man. Especially these digital things. Why if you have a computer on a ups it is better for it. Just takes all the ups and downs out of the supply. You can burn up electronics FASTER by underpowering them then overpowering them. That is a hot topic debate on alot of forums.. but it is honest to god the truth.
Man I wish I knew more about the electrical field, as in hands on experience... maybe Nappy could give us some pointers.

The only way to keep that going for long is to add at least 5KW of PV solar to your home. Let me know when you're ready to make the TV's last longer I'll hook you right up:grin::grin:

It's 2011. Come into the 21st. century and dump the flat screen TV. Get a flat panel instead. They take up much less space too.
