Yalecrest up for $25,000 preservation prize

Salt Lake City’s Yalecrest neighborhood has been selected as one of 100 communities eligible to win a $25,000 prize from the National Trust for Historic Preservation as part of an annual “This Place Matters” national competition.

Known for its period revival homes, Yalecrest would use the money to promote the area to tourists and to educate residents about maintaining and remodeling historic homes.

You can watch the real time results of the vote here (http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/community-challenge/voting-results.html) I voted for Over the Rhine this weekend. They were in 58th place and now are right on top. It's a pretty cool thing they got going on there. Lots of urban renewal going on using the existing buildings from an old working class neighborhood.

you can check them out here (http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/community-challenge/places/over-the-rhine.html)

Cincinnati is a very historic city with an extraordinary number of historic places on the National Register. Over-the-Rhine has more such buildings than New Orleans and is larger than Charleston's world-renowned historic district.

The state hospital here (http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/community-challenge/places/otter-tail-county.html) is in the competition too. Thanks for posting this.
