The job is finishing up tomorrow, just punch list stuff and some "add ons"

Trying to remember all the "Extras" got me to thinking about some sage advice I got years ago from a contractor.

He seemed to have an amazing ability to pick customers with deep pockets.
Every thing deluxe, one customer actually had us put a second addition on his home just to keep it in balance.

One day I asked him,"Rob ,How do you pick them?"

"It's the furniture ,Mike. It's always the furniture."

He went on to explain-People will go into hock for a big house or a fancy car.
People only buy fine furniture with cash--extra money ,after the bills are paid.

This advice has held true for me,

Any body else have any sage advice? Sure glad he shared that with me.

Yes.
Don't ever play cards with a man whose first name is the same as a major city.
And never pass up an opportunity to take leak.

I have heard it said that you tell a lot about a man by looking at his wife and his shoes.

Now that I think about it that is true.
the two best clients I ever had spent a fortune on furniture. One was addicted to antique French and British furniture. the other was an Eathan Allen fan. Both spent fortunes on that crap. But over 3 years I only needed those two clients and they made me good money. The antique person would call me about once a month wether there was a project going on or not. Usually it was some antique piece that arrived in pieces and had to be re assembled. Or the Elton John 4 poster bed that needed to be assembled. I did probably 100k a year between the two.

"Look at the tires on their cars" is one I remember.

You've got furniture??

My "coffee table" is a piece of Baltic birch ply sitting on two five gallon buckets.
